Chapter 984 We Also Have a Condition

Catherine’s tone was resolute. Of course, she would never seek out Wei Yumeng, never.

After everything that had happened, how could she possibly bow down to Wei Yumeng and admit that everything she had done was wrong? Wouldn't that be a complete humiliation?

“Mom, please, don’t say any more. I won’t go.”

Song Lijun felt a pang of sympathy. “Linlin, have you thought about the future? If you ignore this now, things will only spread further, and your situation will become more precarious. What about your baby? Even if you don’t care about yourself, you have to think of the child.”

Catherine touched her belly. Though it hadn’t been long, she could always feel a small life stirring within.

Perhaps she was being selfish, but how could she swallow her pride?

“Mom knows you and Yumeng have reached this point, but Yumeng isn’t an unreasonable person. This matter can be resolved. Think about it, if you had clarified things from the beginning, would all those past events have happened?”

Hearing Song Lijun’s words, Catherine merely clenched her fists. She never believed that the conflict between her and Wei Yumeng could be resolved with just a few words.

“Linlin, just listen to your mother.”

Catherine finally took a deep breath. “Alright, I’ll try.”

Catherine wasn’t doing this for herself, nor did she believe Song Lijun’s words about clarifying things between them. She was doing it solely for the child in her belly, and for no other reason.

Wei Yumeng felt like she hadn't been this busy in a long time. Although Che Lie was helping her manage the projects, the company’s affairs alone were enough to keep her swamped.

“Ms. Wei, please take a break. These minor matters can be handed over to me,” Wu Yi said, feeling a twinge of heartache. Wei Yumeng was always someone who preferred to handle things herself rather than bother others.

It was precisely this trait that had led to Wei Yumeng being so overwhelmingly busy.

Wei Yumeng waved her hand. “It’s fine. Once these things are done, they’ll be concluded. It won’t be too late to rest then.”

Just then, there was a knock on the office door.

“Come in,” Wei Yumeng said indifferently, not even looking up from her work.

Wu Yi, however, looked surprised. “Miss Catherine, what brings you here?”

Catherine feigned composure. “I need to speak with Ms. Wei about something. You can leave first.”

Wu Yi glanced at Wei Yumeng, then at Catherine, and finally closed the door and left.

Wei Yumeng put down her work and gave Catherine a cold reception.

“I don’t know what you’re here for, but this is a company. If it’s not about work, I’d prefer you find me privately.”

But as soon as Wei Yumeng finished speaking, Catherine bowed deeply to her.

“I’m very sorry. I regret everything I’ve done. I only hope you can let me off the hook.”

This left Wei Yumeng somewhat confused. “What do you mean? If I recall correctly, I haven’t seen you in a long time. Why are you apologizing to me?”

Catherine took a deep breath. “I think Ms. Wei must have seen the recent news. Even if I stay home now, I’m still being cyberbullied by those netizens. I can’t take it anymore.”

This brought Wei Yumeng back to her own past experiences. It was Catherine’s scheme that had made her the target of nationwide animosity, leading to her house catching fire and her two children nearly perishing.

Back then, did Catherine ever consider letting them go?

“You should go back. That matter originally had nothing to do with me, and I can’t help you.”

Catherine quickly interjected, “You can’t help me, but Zhan Mohan can. If you’re willing to speak up for me, Zhan Mohan will surely be able to suppress that news.”

“Fine, let’s say you’re right. But why should I help you? Have you forgotten what you did to us using the same methods? If you had succeeded back then, I wouldn’t be sitting here now.”

Wei Yumeng’s gaze was chilling. She even found Catherine utterly shameless, having done so much harm to others, yet now she expected others to help her.

Although Catherine had anticipated this outcome, she was unwilling to give up so easily.

“Yumeng, I truly know I was wrong about the past. Can you help me? No, not me, but help the child in my belly. I don’t want him to suffer any harm because of me.” Catherine’s former arrogance was gone, replaced by a look of earnest pleading.

But Wei Yumeng was no longer swayed by such a display. The past could not simply be erased with a few words.

“Leave. I won’t change my mind.”

With that, Wei Yumeng turned back to her work, no longer looking at Catherine.

“Yumeng, I…”

Catherine tried to say more, but Wu Yi re-entered the office.

“Miss Catherine, if there’s nothing else, please leave. Ms. Wei has a meeting to attend shortly.”

Despite her reluctance, Catherine walked out of Wei Yumeng’s office.

Catherine felt an overwhelming sense of loss and helplessness again. Perhaps the current outcome was indeed a consequence of her past actions.

But she had apologized now. What more could she do?

Was there truly no other solution to this predicament?

Catherine exited Feng Corporation, afraid to walk through crowded areas. She cautiously made her way through a small alley, fearing she might be recognized.

Just then, two men in black, wearing black sunglasses, appeared before her. They were tall and imposing, clearly not to be trifled with.

As she was about to retreat and turn back, two more men appeared behind her.

“Who are you people? What do you want?”

Catherine was terrified. Had someone really hated her so much based on online information that they had hired such individuals to deal with her?

“Miss Catherine, please don’t worry. We are not here to harm you.”

A hoary voice emerged. Behind Catherine, she turned to see an elder of distinguished bearing.

Catherine even felt a sense of familiarity in his features, as if he resembled Zhan Mohan.

“Miss Catherine, we have heard about your situation. We can help you resolve these current troubles, but we do have a condition.”
