Chapter 1050 Striving A Bit More

Wei Yumeng deliberately probed Fang Xun, asking, "Is Mo Han not in the office right now? Or is he in a meeting?"

But Fang Xun was somewhat embarrassed. "Young Master Zhan is indeed here... it's just..."

Wei Yumeng waited for him to continue, but Fang Xun finally sighed.

"Madam, I'll be honest with you. Chen Yutong is currently in Young Master Zhan's office, but there's nothing else going on between them. I wanted to stop you because I was afraid you might misunderstand Young Master Zhan."

Wei Yumeng finally understood the strange looks she had received earlier. Thinking back to the comments she saw after yesterday's event, she realized that not only within the Zhan Corporation but also in other circles, the gossip about the two of them must be rampant.

A heavy feeling settled in Wei Yumeng's heart. However, she knew very well that gossip was just gossip and didn't represent the truth. She didn't need to let rumors affect her relationship with Zhan Mohan.

Seeing Wei Yumeng's silence, Fang Xun's heart pounded. If she were to lose her temper, he'd need to prepare an escape route.

But Wei Yumeng spoke up, "Don't worry, I understand Mo Han. I would never interfere with his work."

Fang Xun was slightly taken aback. He had indeed misjudged her.

"I'm relieved to hear you say that. Young Master Zhan should still be in his office."

Wei Yumeng nodded, then bid farewell to Fang Xun and walked towards Zhan Mohan's office.

She gently knocked on Zhan Mohan's office door. A cold voice from within said, "Come in."

Wei Yumeng pushed the door open. The scene inside made her almost choke.

If it were just work matters, Chen Yutong wouldn't have been lingering behind Zhan Mohan.

Wei Yumeng felt even more suffocated. She walked over, placed the documents on Zhan Mohan's desk, and turned to leave.

But Zhan Mohan called out to her, "Yumeng, don't go."

Wei Yumeng took a deep breath and turned around. She kept telling herself that even though she felt uncomfortable, she couldn't erupt here.

Seeing Wei Yumeng's pale face, Zhan Mohan sighed again. "Come and sit down."

Zhan Mohan pulled a chair closer to him, and Wei Yumeng sat down.

As soon as Wei Yumeng sat, Zhan Mohan took her hand and gave her a resolute look.

"Miss Chen, this is my wife, Wei Yumeng. We already have two children," Zhan Mohan introduced solemnly to Chen Yutong.

Wei Yumeng was slightly surprised. She hadn't expected Zhan Mohan to introduce her so formally.

And his statement, didn't it clearly declare Zhan Mohan's stance and Wei Yumeng's position?

Regardless of whether Chen Yutong had any ulterior motives towards Zhan Mohan, Zhan Mohan's words were equivalent to giving the other person a polite dismissal.

Chen Yutong blinked in surprise at this. She unconsciously bit her lower lip but quickly regained her composure.

"Mrs. Zhan, I've heard about you before. I didn't expect to meet you under these circumstances."

She then extended her hand amicably to Wei Yumeng.

Wei Yumeng responded politely, "Hello, I've seen you on television before, but you're much prettier in person."

Chen Yutong blushed slightly. "You're too kind. Actually, you're different from what I imagined. I wish I could be like you."

Chen Yutong's words were sincere. After all, the fact that Zhan Mohan married Wei Yumeng surely meant that Wei Yumeng was Zhan Mohan's preferred type.

If she could be a little like Wei Yumeng, perhaps she would have a greater chance of gaining Zhan Mohan's favor.

Wei Yumeng observed Chen Yutong, but found no obvious oddities. Her tone was gentle, her demeanor polite, and she seemed quite nice.

However, Wei Yumeng did catch a fleeting trace of unnaturalness on Chen Yutong's face when Zhan Mohan introduced her.

Chen Yutong, noticing Wei Yumeng's probing gaze, felt a pang of guilt and quickly sought another topic.

She looked at Wei Yumeng, then at Zhan Mohan, with a look of apology.

"Your complexion wasn't very good just now, Mrs. Zhan. Did you perhaps think that Mr. Zhan and I..."

Zhan Mohan coughed awkwardly at her words.

Wei Yumeng also looked away somewhat embarrassed. Being brought up like this felt strangely shameful.

"Don't worry, Mr. Zhan and I were just discussing work matters. Our previous event went very smoothly, so our cooperation will continue. We were just discussing some details of the work."

However, Chen Yutong then changed her tone. "But Mrs. Zhan, Mr. Zhan is indeed a very charming man. You should keep a close eye on him."

The first part of her sentence seemed innocuous, but the latter part startled Wei Yumeng. What did she mean by that?

Was it a simple reminder, or was there some other hidden meaning?

Zhan Mohan looked at Wei Yumeng and said, with rare gentleness, "You never have to worry about things like this."

Wei Yumeng met his gaze and nodded slightly.

Chen Yutong watched them interact. Although she maintained a polite smile, she felt deeply unsettled inside.

The current scene was a little too cruel for her. She was hurting terribly inside but couldn't show it.

Zhan Mohan glanced at the time. "It's getting late. That's all for today."

He then stood up, holding Wei Yumeng's hand, without looking at Chen Yutong. "What do you want to eat? There's a new place nearby that I remember has good dishes. Want to try it?"

Wei Yumeng nodded. "Okay, since you think it's good, it should be delicious."

Zhan Mohan's lips curved into a slight smile. "Then let's go."

As they reached the door, Zhan Mohan turned back to Chen Yutong and said, "You can rest now. If you need anything further, I'll have Fang Xun notify you."

Once the couple had completely left the office, Chen Yutong felt as deflated as a balloon.

When she heard today that Zhan Mohan wanted to discuss work with her alone, she had been overjoyed. She truly believed she had taken another step forward.

But just now, she realized that the relationship between Zhan Mohan and Wei Yumeng was enviably strong. She wasn't even sure if she still had a chance to contend for him.

Even though she wanted to give up, she couldn't convince herself to do so. Perhaps persistence was what she should do.
