Shi Yi

Chapter 1009 This was the love he once lost

Under Zhan Mohan's request, Wei Yumeng still agreed not to have any excessive contact with Zhan Yangyi, although Wei Yumeng herself didn't feel she had done anything wrong.

However, Zhan Yangyi in the hospital wouldn't settle down so easily. For him, this was a hard-won opportunity to build a good relationship with Wei Yumeng, and he couldn't give it up.

He checked the time. It was already after work hours, and Wei Yumeng had most likely gone home to rest. So, he picked up his phone and called Wei Yumeng.

Wei Yumeng hadn't expected Zhan Yangyi to call her himself. She also realized that she hadn't even bid him farewell when she left the hospital, and it was only proper to explain the situation. Thus, she answered the call.

"Yumeng," Zhan Yangyi spoke first. "I haven't seen you lately. Are you doing alright?"

"I'm fine. You don't need to worry. How are you doing?"

Hearing Wei Yumeng worry about him, Zhan Yangyi naturally felt pleased. "I'm not doing too well. My health hasn't fully recovered, and now I don't even have anyone to talk to. The caregiver is busy all day and doesn't say a word to me."

Wei Yumeng couldn't help but chuckle at the thought of that scenario. She could even imagine Zhan Yangyi's helpless expression, which made it even funnier.

Zhan Yangyi heard Wei Yumeng's light laugh and couldn't help but smile. "If you have time, please come see me more often. Otherwise, you might see a completely silent me when we next meet."

Hearing this, Wei Yumeng's expression stiffened. The words sounded rather ambiguous. Could Zhan Yangyi really have feelings for her?

She immediately shook her head. She shouldn't even be thinking about such things. Zhan Yangyi and Zhan Mohan were brothers, and she couldn't be the one caught between them.

"I'm sorry, Big Brother. I've been too busy with the Feng Corporation project recently and couldn't get away. But once I have time, I will definitely go with Mohan..."

Before Wei Yumeng could finish, Zhan Mohan snatched the phone away.

"Big Brother, Yumeng has done all that she needed to do. I believe the caregiver is capable of handling everything from now on. If there's anything else, please call me directly. Don't bother Yumeng anymore."

Zhan Mohan's intention was crystal clear: he was directly telling Zhan Yangyi to stop calling Wei Yumeng.

Although Zhan Yangyi felt a pang of displeasure, he couldn't say anything. After all, in this situation, Wei Yumeng was indeed Zhan Mohan's wife, and his own presence was the unexpected element.

"Mohan, don't be so serious. I was just worried because I hadn't seen her for a while. But now that I hear she's fine, I'm much more at ease."

"I will protect her safety, you don't need to worry."

"Then I am relieved."

With that, Zhan Yangyi hung up the phone.

Wei Yumeng looked at Zhan Mohan, but she couldn't hear what Zhan Yangyi had said. She felt a bit anxious, fearing that if Zhan Yangyi had said something wrong, the brothers, who had finally reconciled, might start fighting again, which would be truly troublesome.

"Mohan, you can rest assured. I won't let you go," she quickly explained. "I only thank him for saving me before. I have nothing else. I swear."

Seeing Wei Yumeng's demeanor, Zhan Mohan sighed. It wasn't that he didn't trust Wei Yumeng; it was that he didn't trust Zhan Yangyi's character.

From his investigations, Zhan Yangyi had never refused beauty in the past, and he had countless women around him. Even in the short time he had been here, he was rumored to be a notorious playboy. No matter what, Zhan Mohan had to prevent Wei Yumeng from being deceived by Zhan Yangyi.

"I've always believed in you."

Zhan Mohan said this while tightly holding Wei Yumeng's hand, and Wei Yumeng squeezed his hand back.

Although Wei Yumeng couldn't conveniently take care of Zhan Yangyi anymore, Grandpa Zhan visited him with increasing frequency. It seemed he was trying to make amends for his past mistakes by treating Zhan Yangyi in his own way.

"Yangyi, these were specially brought from abroad. They're meant to replenish your body in your current condition. You must eat them well."

Grandpa Zhan said this as he placed a large pile of tonics in the hospital room.

Zhan Yangyi found it somewhat amusing, as if he were in confinement after childbirth.

"Grandpa, please don't trouble yourself. You should keep these things for yourself. I'm still young, and I only had a car accident. The doctor said I'll be fine as long as I follow their advice."

However, Grandpa Zhan disagreed. "Following the doctor's advice is natural, but precisely because you are young, you cannot let any underlying health issues develop at this time." He then looked at the caregiver. "Go and stew this for Young Master."

He even regretted not stewing it himself before bringing it over.

Looking at Grandpa Zhan before him, Zhan Yangyi felt a rare warmth in his heart. In the past, when he was homeless, such a scene only appeared in his dreams. Back then, how much he had longed for a warm family.

But his dream had not come true then. Now that it had, it seemed it wasn't too late.

"Yangyi, I know you've suffered a lot because of some things I did in the past. But at least now that you're back, we should act like a family. Don't be so polite with me about these things from now on. If you want anything, just tell me. If I can do it, I will do my best."

"Grandpa, my current status is enough for me to obtain everything I desire. I appreciate your kindness."

Hearing Zhan Yangyi's words, Grandpa Zhan looked even more crestfallen, feeling that his efforts to compensate might be too late.

Zhan Yangyi saw Grandpa Zhan's mood and changed the subject. "However, there are indeed some things I need recently. After all, in my current state, I can't go anywhere."

As expected, Grandpa Zhan's spirits lifted again. "Tell me, I'll have someone arrange it for you."

So, Zhan Yangyi listed a series of things he needed. Although they weren't valuable items, Grandpa Zhan's heart was still filled with joy. After all, being able to do something for his grandson made him feel his own existence had meaning.

In reality, Zhan Yangyi did have one thing he truly desired. However, even if he told Grandpa Zhan, he doubted it could truly be obtained.

Even more so, if he were to mention it, the current harmonious atmosphere of the Zhan family would vanish. Yet, despite this, Zhan Yangyi couldn't suppress his desires and could only indulge in them casually.
