Chapter 1021 This Is the Punishment He Deserves

Wei Yumeng naturally nodded, feeling much more at ease now with the help of Mu Linjing and Jing Yan.

Jing Yan relayed the matter to Fang Xun, and the two of them, through various channels, managed to glean some information from the nurse who had attended to Zhan Yangyi that day.

"A woman did come to see Mr. Zhan that day."

Jing Yan thought for a moment and continued, "Was that woman thin and tall, with a good figure, but dressed very fashionably, and pregnant?"

"Yes, I thought she was a pregnant woman coming for a check-up, but later I realized it might not be the case. I overheard a little at the door. The woman seemed to have played something for Mr. Zhan. The content seemed to be that the Zhan family had taken him back only for his inheritance." The nurse said indignantly, "To be honest, I found it strange after hearing that. Although we nurses don't meddle in the private affairs of patients' families, we saw firsthand how good Old Master Zhan and Madam Zhan were to Mr. Zhan. They don't seem like that kind of people."

Fang Xun couldn't help but clasp his forehead. "It seems he's truly fallen for such a petty trick."

"Perhaps it's precisely because the Zhan family is so important in Zhan Yangyi's heart that he couldn't distinguish the truth from falsehood," Jing Yan analyzed. "Although we have a witness now, it's far from enough. We need definitive evidence."

Fang Xun shrugged. "Leave that to me. Since it was a forged recording, I've done similar things before. Perhaps I can find the audio source."

Jing Yan nodded; he had great trust in Fang Xun.

As expected, not long after, Fang Xun brought good news. They found the team that Catherine had used to create the fake recording. Furthermore, according to their team's management, a backup copy of every audio file was kept. The receipt for their transaction also bore Catherine's signature.

Now, everything was prepared.

When Wei Yumeng learned of all this, she naturally decided to personally explain things to Zhan Yangyi, to let him know the truth, and to work together to get Zhan Mohan out first.

"Madam, please let us handle this. You should rest here."

Jing Yan also nodded. "You are already a party involved in this matter. If you explain it, it will only make Zhan Yangyi doubt the authenticity of the story. As outsiders, we might be more persuasive."

"Alright, I trust your abilities. No matter the outcome, please inform me immediately."

Fang Xun nodded and exchanged a look with Jing Yan before they left together.

Watching their retreating figures, Wei Yumeng couldn't help but worry. She wasn't sure if Zhan Yangyi would accept the facts they presented, nor did she know what he would do after learning everything. She could only hope that everything would develop in a positive direction.

Zhan Yangyi, in his hospital room, was not surprised to see Jing Yan and Fang Xun. After all, given what had happened between him and Wei Yumeng, these two, as Zhan Mohan's people, might be there to settle scores.

"Are you here to demand an explanation? I didn't do anything to Yumeng."

Fang Xun said, "Mr. Zhan, you misunderstand. Before we came, Madam had instructed us not to be disrespectful to Mr. Zhan. It's just that there are some things I believe Mr. Zhan would very much like to know."

Hearing that Wei Yumeng had sent them, Zhan Yangyi was willing to listen to what they had to say.

Jing Yan looked at Zhan Yangyi with his arms crossed. "There are some matters that I believe Mr. Zhan is not yet aware of. The feud between our Madam and Catherine runs very deep. She has used all sorts of methods to try and eliminate Madam."

Upon hearing this, Zhan Yangyi began to guess what they were going to say, even contemplating the worst-case scenario.

"We have investigated. Catherine once presented a recording to you, telling you that the Zhan family only brought you back for your inheritance, right?"

Zhan Yangyi frowned. He hadn't expected them to investigate this far. He remained silent, but he didn't deny it.

Jing Yan continued, "I can only tell Mr. Zhan some unfortunate news: that recording was forged."

Fang Xun then placed a receipt in front of Zhan Yangyi. "This is the receipt from Miss Catherine and the forged recording provider."

Zhan Yangyi picked it up. Catherine's name was indeed written on it. However, even so, he couldn't dismiss the possibility of the receipt being forged, as creating such a thing wouldn't be difficult for these two.

Jing Yan and Fang Xun naturally knew that this alone was not enough. They exchanged a look, and Fang Xun opened the hospital room door, saying something to someone outside.

At that moment, Wei Yumeng's voice came from outside, followed shortly by Zhan Mohan's, and then surprisingly, Old Master Zhan's.

At first, Zhan Yangyi thought Wei Yumeng was really outside. However, Zhan Mohan was in the detention center and couldn't possibly be out, and this entire affair had been orchestrated while Old Master Zhan was abroad.

Jing Yan looked at the astonished Zhan Yangyi and said with a hint of pride, "Well? Surprised? I can tell you, Madam is still at home resting and could not possibly have come to see you."

Immediately after, Fang Xun entered with two men and one woman.

"Hello, Mr. Zhan." The woman's voice was identical to Wei Yumeng's.

The other two naturally corresponded to Zhan Mohan and Old Master Zhan.

The person playing Old Master Zhan explained, "We are employees of Tianyi Sound Workshop, and we are voice actors. Miss Catherine had indeed commissioned us to create that recording."

Jing Yan shrugged. "That's how it is, Mr. Zhan. We were all caught in Catherine's trap."

At this point, Zhan Yangyi had no choice but to believe. This was the truth.

Zhan Yangyi clenched his fists. He recalled the kindness Wei Yumeng had shown him, as well as Old Master Zhan and even Zhan Mohan.

He was so foolish to have doubted them because of a recording.

Seeing that Zhan Yangyi now knew everything, Fang Xun and Jing Yan breathed a sigh of relief. This Zhan Yangyi seemed a little different from their expectations; perhaps he wasn't as thoroughly bad as Catherine.

By the time Zhan Yangyi regained his senses, Fang Xun and Jing Yan were long gone from the hospital room.

Zhan Yangyi's state of mind had changed from before. He now felt a sense of regret for his past actions. The only one who could salvage the current situation was himself.

Although the injury on his leg had not yet healed, he secretly ran out of the hospital, deceiving the doctor. He intended to explain everything to the police. Some actions were his doing, and he would not shirk responsibility; these were punishments he deserved.
