Chapter 1269 The Lie Exposed

"Right," Wei Yumeng suddenly remembered. "On my way to find you earlier, I ran into Dr. Vincent. He seemed a bit strange."

Wei Yumeng didn't distrust Vincent, but her interactions with him over this period had given her some insight. He appeared to have a peculiar temper, yet he was the type of person who wouldn't easily lie.

Zhan Mohan merely looked at Wei Yumeng and softly asked, "How was he strange?"

"He said he needed to give you a comprehensive check-up these few days and even isolate you for a period." Wei Yumeng's brows furrowed as she spoke. "Didn't he previously say he wanted you to get more sun? Isn't that contradictory?"

"He already told me about this. I don't see any problem with it," Zhan Mohan's tone was even.

"But..." Wei Yumeng felt something was off.

Or rather, it wasn't just this one thing that felt off. For instance, the hospital inexplicably changing all its nurses and staff was highly unusual.

Yet, even with her feelings, she couldn't piece anything together.

Zhan Mohan looked at Wei Yumeng's troubled expression. He knew as well as anyone that someone as perceptive as Wei Yumeng would notice something amiss. But even so, he wanted to keep it from her for as long as possible. Last night.

"You're asking me to cooperate with you and not tell Wei Yumeng about this?" Vincent sounded surprised. "She's your wife; she has a right to know."

"But you've experienced what happened before. Even with my repeated warnings, she would still do anything reckless for me." Thinking of this, Zhan Mohan couldn't help but frown.

It was quite conceivable that if someone hadn't been secretly assisting Wei Yumeng before, her trip to the mountains would have been an incredibly dangerous undertaking.

And this time, if Wei Yumeng knew the current situation, there was no guarantee she wouldn't do something rash again.

Thinking of this, Zhan Mohan felt a sense of helplessness, yet he was also very worried.

Everything Wei Yumeng did stemmed from her love for him, but he cared even more about her safety.

To Wei Yumeng, Zhan Mohan was her everything.

But was it not the same for Zhan Mohan?

"Old man, just agree. We'll just tell her she's undergoing a period of isolation treatment, and during that time, we'll perform the surgery. She might not find out."

Vincent pondered again, then sighed. "Sometimes, I really don't understand you young people. You clearly care about each other, but you never say it directly. It's like you, and like Miss Wei, and even that girl who seems carefree. To get me to come back to the country, she went to great lengths. And also..."

"Alright! It's all in the past, let's not bring it up," Shen Xiangxue quickly stopped him.

"Fine, I'll agree to it this time," Vincent said, shaking his head as he left.

"Mohan, I'll prepare enough supplies for you later. I'll talk to the nurses and make sure your needs are met, even if I'm not by your side."

Wei Yumeng's voice pulled Zhan Mohan back to the present.

Hearing this, Zhan Mohan chuckled. "Okay, you call the shots."

His tone was incredibly doting, as gentle as a spring breeze.

Wei Yumeng's face immediately flushed. Even she found it strange; it was just a normal conversation, yet it made her so embarrassed.

The two of them returned to the ward only when the sun began to set.

Dr. Vincent was already waiting for them.

"You're back?" Dr. Vincent said with a smile. "Young people are great, always so attached to each other."

Wei Yumeng coughed awkwardly.

"But it's true, you'll be starting your isolation check-up tomorrow, so you should spend some quality time together today."

Wei Yumeng didn't know why, but although the words sounded innocuous, her heart skipped a beat.

It felt as though today would be her last time seeing Zhan Mohan.

Vincent was examining Zhan Mohan, so neither of them noticed Wei Yumeng's odd state.

However, Wei Yumeng quickly patted her face, urging herself to be clear-headed.

The doctor had already told her everything was fine; why was she overthinking?

"Yes, today's condition is very good. There's no sign of deterioration. If it continues like this, the chance of recovery is very high." Vincent said, removing his stethoscope. "Alright, my job is done. I won't disturb you any longer. You should spend some quality time together today."

With that, Vincent left the ward.

After he closed the door, his expression turned solemn.

In reality, he hadn't come to examine Zhan Mohan. He just hadn't expected Wei Yumeng to be there, so he staged a little act.

He had actually just learned that the blood supply available to Zhan Mohan at the hospital was completely insufficient.

A blood transfusion surgery required a large amount of matching blood.

Although he knew from the start that Zhan Mohan's blood type was Rh-negative, he had never encountered a situation like this abroad where he would only discover the insufficient stock at the last minute.

Now, to urgently find someone of the same blood type in the city would undoubtedly be difficult.

Therefore, his plan was to obtain blood from Zhan Mohan's relatives. He had originally intended to discuss this with Zhan Mohan.

Vincent shook his head. Now, all he could do was wait.

Wei Yumeng felt a growing unease. Even though she had instructed the doctors and nurses here, and it was a VIP ward, so there shouldn't be any problems, she still felt that something was not right.

Finally, it was time for Zhan Mohan to rest. Wei Yumeng didn't want to leave, but the doctor still insisted she go back.

However, halfway back, Wei Yumeng realized with a jolt that in her dazed state, she had left her keys at the hospital.

Although returning now would undoubtedly disturb Zhan Mohan, she had to go back to get inside her home.

When Wei Yumeng returned to the hospital, she found that the nurses and doctors were all looking at her with strange expressions.

She touched her face in bewilderment, especially since nothing like this had happened during her stay there for the entire day.

She couldn't help but quicken her pace. No matter the reason for their stares, it was simply awkward to be looked at that way.

"What? You're saying the blood bank doesn't have enough? Why wasn't this discovered before?"

"Kid, I don't know either. I knew his blood type was rare, but I thought, like abroad, they would at least have enough for one surgery."

"So what do we do now? If the surgery can't be performed in time, Mohan will..."

Wei Yumeng heard the voices from the ward, and her mind went blank.

What did their words mean?
