"Good, your recovery is proceeding well. At this rate, you should be able to be discharged in another week if there are no adverse reactions," Vincent said, putting down the examination report and speaking to Zhan Mohan and Wei Yumeng.
Wei Yumeng let out a sigh of relief. "That's great."
Zhan Mohan reached out and took Wei Yumeng's hand. He then asked Vincent, "Can I go home today?"
Wei Yumeng quickly looked at Zhan Mohan. "Mohan, you haven't fully recovered. It's better for you to stay in the hospital."
But Zhan Mohan shook his head. "I want to go back and check on Grandpa's condition. I won't feel at ease unless I see it with my own eyes."
Zhan Mohan had noticed that while Grandpa Zhan had visited him quite frequently at first, the intervals between visits had gradually lengthened, causing him some worry.
Vincent thought for a moment and then said, "It's alright for you to go out given your current condition, but you must return before the evening injection."
"Yes, I will make sure he returns on time," Wei Yumeng said solemnly.
However, Vincent also spoke to Wei Yumeng very seriously. "You need to be even more careful than him now, understand?"
Wei Yumeng felt a bit awkward. Zhan Mohan, however, replied, "Don't worry, I will take good care of her."
After Vincent's repeated admonitions, Zhan Mohan and Wei Yumeng finally had the chance to return to the old Zhan family residence.
Wei Yumeng had initially wanted to see the children, but the two kids had been coming to the hospital to accompany them right after school. Since they had this rare opportunity to go out, it was better to visit Grandpa Zhan.
The atmosphere in the old Zhan family residence at this moment was not good; it was even a bit gloomy.
Grandpa Zhan looked at Ren Yang before him and sighed slightly. "Old Ren, I have something I need to ask of you."
However, before Grandpa Zhan could say what it was, Ren Yang immediately refused. "I disagree, and don't forget, I am no longer under the control of your Zhan family."
"Why are you still like this?" Grandpa Zhan was somewhat helpless.
"Aren't you the same? You're so old, yet you haven't changed at all," Ren Yang also sighed. "Instead of keeping it from them forever, how long can you hide it? They will know eventually."
Grandpa Zhan was not unaware of this truth, but he did not want the children to worry about his health.
After all, he was old and would eventually leave them. It was just a little sooner now.
"Alright, let me think about it again," Grandpa Zhan said perfunctorily.
Ren Yang shook his head. He knew that with Grandpa Zhan's stubbornness, no one could change his mind at this point.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
The butler was about to go and see who it was, but Ren Yang walked over first. "I'll go."
Outside, Wei Yumeng waited, her arm linked with Zhan Mohan's. Wei Yumeng felt that Zhan Mohan had become more and more attached to her lately.
However, she naturally did not dislike this feeling.
"Although we've bought some things Grandpa likes, is it a bit too little?" Wei Yumeng was still a little unsure.
Zhan Mohan didn't seem to care. "If you think it's not enough, we can have Fang Xun make another trip."
As they were speaking, Ren Yang approached the main door. Both of them paused slightly and exchanged glances.
"Master Ren, you're here too?" Wei Yumeng asked in surprise.
She had heard before that Ren Yang was in charge of Grandpa Zhan's meals, but she hadn't expected to run into him like this.
Ren Yang smiled. "For convenience in taking care of him, Grandpa Zhan specially allowed me to stay here temporarily."
Wei Yumeng nodded, understanding. Indeed, for constant care, it was better to live together.
Zhan Mohan had not interacted much with Ren Yang. Although he had heard about Ren Yang, this was the first time they had met like this.
His current understanding of Ren Yang was that he had been brought in by Chai Yanyu, so a slight sense of vigilance arose.
Ren Yang opened the door, letting them into the courtyard.
As they walked, Wei Yumeng couldn't help but ask, "Master Ren, how has Grandpa been recently? Are there any problems?"
"He..." Ren Yang was about to explain the situation, but then he remembered Grandpa Zhan's wishes from earlier.
Wei Yumeng was startled by Ren Yang's sudden pause. "Could it be that Grandpa really..."
"Actually, it's like this, he..."
But before Ren Yang could finish speaking, Grandpa Zhan's voice came from inside the house.
"Ahem, why are you two here? Shouldn't you be resting obediently in the hospital?" Grandpa Zhan sounded somewhat displeased.
"Grandpa, we got Dr. Vincent's permission to come back and see you. Mohan is worried about your health," Wei Yumeng said, placing the purchased items on the table. "These are things we bought specifically for you."
Grandpa Zhan glanced at the food, seeming to covet it, and almost reached out to take a bite. However, he couldn't help but glance at Ren Yang beside him.
Ren Yang was still smiling, but he made Grandpa Zhan dismiss the thought.
Grandpa Zhan pretended to be displeased. "You're not taking care of yourselves and buying things for me. I can't bear such a burden."
Wei Yumeng felt a bit awkward but didn't take it to heart, assuming Grandpa Zhan was still angry.
Although Zhan Mohan had been silent, he had been observing the reactions of Ren Yang and Grandpa Zhan since he entered.
While Grandpa Zhan seemed to be without any problems, his appearance seemed much older, and he sat there motionlessly.
He frowned. He had reason to believe that Grandpa Zhan would not tell them the truth today.
"Mr. Ren, I'd like to speak with you alone," Zhan Mohan suddenly said.
Hearing this, Grandpa Zhan reacted first. "Mohan, what are you doing? Don't be prejudiced against him just because he's from the Chai family. In fact, we're old friends."
Wei Yumeng was surprised.
Grandpa Zhan continued, "That was many years ago. We were young back then and had a good relationship, but we went our separate ways for our careers."
Wei Yumeng finally understood. After all, when she learned that Ren Yang was also going to take care of Grandpa Zhan, she had indeed thought it was arranged by Chai Yanyu.
Thinking of Chai Yanyu, Wei Yumeng felt a tightness in her chest again, but she quickly shook off the unpleasant feeling.
However, Zhan Mohan did not follow Grandpa Zhan's train of thought. He merely explained, "I don't doubt Master Ren's identity. I just want to understand some things from him."
Grandpa Zhan felt a pang of guilt. He and Ren Yang had not reached any agreement. If they were left alone, Ren Yang might tell Zhan Mohan his true condition.
He looked at Ren Yang, his eyes even carrying a hint of pleading, but Ren Yang did not look at him.
