When Zhan Yichen and Mu Linjing returned to the corridor, the doctor had finished examining Zhan Mohan.
"How is my husband's condition?" Wei Yumeng's heart was still pounding. She was terrified that Zhan Mohan would have a similar episode as before.
She didn't want to lose him again, nor did she want to suffer such sorrow.
Fortunately, the doctor's expression was relaxed, devoid of the solemnity usually seen with critically ill patients.
"Don't worry, the injured only hit his head and has a mild concussion. Also, did he have surgery before? That's why he might take longer to wake up than usual."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. As long as Zhan Mohan was alright, nothing else mattered.
Wei Yumeng looked at the others. "I'm sorry for making you all worry. Since Mohan is fine, you can all go back. I can stay here alone."
Zhan Yangyi seemed to have something to say, but after hesitating, he ultimately said nothing.
"I'm free today, I'll stay," Mu Linjing offered.
In reality, she wanted to stay to have some private time with Wei Yumeng and convey her thoughts to her.
Zhan Yichen, sensing Mu Linjing's intentions, gestured for her not to act rashly.
Mu Linjing gave him a reassuring look, assuring him she knew what she was doing.
In the end, considering Chen Yutong's condition, Zhan Yangyi left with Zhan Yichen.
After seeing everyone off, Wei Yumeng and Mu Linjing entered the ward.
"Thank goodness he's okay." Looking at Zhan Mohan lying in bed, Wei Yumeng still felt a lingering fear.
She rearranged the quilt for Zhan Mohan and reached out to hold his hand. The warmth in Zhan Mohan's hand reassured her greatly.
Mu Linjing stayed by her side, also looking for an opportune moment to share her thoughts with Wei Yumeng.
But before she could find the chance, Wei Yumeng spoke first.
"Linjing, is there something you want to tell me?"
Mu Linjing was slightly taken aback, surprised that Wei Yumeng had noticed.
Wei Yumeng sighed. "You usually talk so much with me, but today you've been quiet. Isn't it because you haven't found the right moment to speak?"
Mu Linjing felt a little awkward and could only nod. "You know me best, of course. I do have something to tell you, but I'm still a bit hesitant."
Wei Yumeng sat down by the bed and looked at her. "Tell me, what is there between us that we can't discuss?"
Actually, Wei Yumeng had already guessed what Mu Linjing wanted to say.
Based on her understanding of Mu Linjing, it must be about her opinion on this matter.
"I..." Mu Linjing hesitated. "This is just my current thought, so just listen."
Wei Yumeng nodded. "Okay."
Then, Mu Linjing reiterated her suspicions about the incident.
After listening, Wei Yumeng frowned. Although she hadn't considered it that way before, she now had to reconsider the issue.
She had already changed her opinion of Zhan Yangyi and Chen Yutong. Despite their past conflicts, she felt she knew their characters well after spending so much time with them.
"To do something like this for an inheritance, is it really possible?" Wei Yumeng murmured to herself.
She found it hard to believe, but in reality, the distribution of Old Master Zhan's inheritance was indeed in Zhan Mohan's hands.
Although Zhan Yangyi was the eldest, Zhan Mohan had been established as the head of the Zhan family for many years.
"Yumeng, I don't want to think this way either, but everything happened too coincidentally, which is why I'm suspicious."
Mu Linjing felt uncomfortable saying this. She wasn't someone who liked to gossip, but it felt like she was backbiting.
"Alright, I understand what you mean. I'll personally investigate this matter."
Wei Yumeng appeared deep in thought. She couldn't attribute the incident to Zhan Yangyi's family based solely on a suspicion. After all, they were still family, and she didn't want to cause family discord over this.
"Then what do you plan to do?" Mu Linjing asked, a little worried. "Do you need my help?"
Wei Yumeng shook her head. "This is a matter between our family and my elder brother. I don't want you to get involved."
But Mu Linjing insisted, "Even so, if you need my help, you must tell me."
Wei Yumeng nodded. "Of course."
After sharing her thoughts with Wei Yumeng, Mu Linjing felt much better.
However, she knew that she had passed her worry onto Wei Yumeng, and now Wei Yumeng was the one with the biggest headache.
She stayed by the bedside all day, but Zhan Mohan still hadn't woken up.
The doctor told Wei Yumeng that perhaps Zhan Mohan had been very tired recently, and coupled with the head injury, he was taking this opportunity to rest.
Seeing that Zhan Mohan's breathing was even and he showed no adverse reactions, Wei Yumeng finally left the hospital.
Mu Linjing bid her farewell, and Wei Yumeng went home alone.
She did have an idea about this matter; perhaps when Zhan Mohan woke up, he would know what had actually happened at the time.
But Zhan Mohan's waking time was uncertain. If Zhan Yangyi and Chen Yutong really had other plans, they might act at this opportune moment and potentially harm Zhan Mohan.
Therefore, Wei Yumeng had to find out the truth as quickly as possible.
Thinking this, she sighed and realized that directly asking Zhan Yangyi was impossible. She would have to go and see the accident scene herself.
"I remember the accident scene wasn't far from here."
Wei Yumeng changed her direction, deciding to take the opportunity to inquire around, hoping for some new discoveries.
By the time she reached her destination, it was already late, making it impossible to find many witnesses.
Fortunately, the shops on the street were still open. At least some of these people might have seen what happened.
"Hello, I'd like to ask about something," Wei Yumeng politely said to a shopkeeper.
The shopkeeper looked at Wei Yumeng and replied courteously, "Yes."
"I heard there was an accident here today, someone was hit by a car."
Wei Yumeng deliberately stated something contrary to the actual event.
As expected, the shopkeeper waved his hand. "There was indeed an accident, but the car didn't hit anyone. The person dodged it."
"So you saw the whole incident unfold?" Wei Yumeng asked.
The shopkeeper nodded. "My shop is right here, and I'm usually alone, so I saw it quite clearly."
"Then, could you please tell me in detail what happened at the time?"
The shopkeeper looked at Wei Yumeng with suspicion. "Miss, what exactly are you here for?"
