"Due to my current physical condition, this will is being drafted by Old Ren and can represent all my personal wishes. Please be advised.
I wish to make the following arrangements for my assets:
First, as I have three grandsons, my personal property will be divided into three portions of thirty percent each, to be given to my three grandsons and their families. The remaining ten percent, according to my personal wishes, I will leave to my grandsons, Zhan Shiqing and Zhan Jinzhi, as funds for their upbringing, to be managed by my granddaughter-in-law, Wei Yumeng.
Second, ownership of Zhan's Group will continue to belong to my second grandson, Zhan Mohan.
Third, ownership of the Zhan family's old residence will be given to my eldest grandson, Zhan Yangyi.
Lastly, as for my third grandson, Zhan Yichen, I believe Mohan will arrange a better future for him, so I do not need to worry about it.
These are all my arrangements."
Although the will was read out by Ren Yang, in everyone's eyes and ears, it was as if they saw Grandpa Zhan himself telling them his arrangements.
And after speaking, he looked at them as kindly as ever.
Lawyer Zuo's voice pulled everyone back to the present: "Effective immediately, the will is in effect. You may proceed through legal channels to receive your respective shares of the inheritance."
Wei Yumeng took a deep breath. She always felt that the ten percent portion seemed a bit too much.
Moreover, even though Grandpa Zhan felt guilty about previous events and arranged this portion of the inheritance for her, it didn't need to be this much.
What concerned her more was whether Grandpa Zhan's actions would provoke opposition from others.
Thinking this, she couldn't help but look at Zhan Yichen's family and Zhan Yangyi's family.
Zhan Yichen seemed to have no objections and was already conversing with Lawyer Zuo about the next procedural steps.
Chen Yutong's expression, however, seemed less than pleasant. When Chen Yutong suddenly felt Wei Yumeng's gaze, she looked up at Wei Yumeng and offered a smile.
This also put Wei Yumeng at ease. Perhaps Chen Yutong was just feeling unwell earlier.
Only after everyone had finalized their procedures did they leave the law firm together.
They did not feel happy about receiving this inheritance; instead, each of them was preoccupied with their own thoughts, returning home separately.
As soon as they got into the car, Wei Yumeng still voiced her thoughts: "Mohan, I still feel that the ten percent of the inheritance Grandpa gave to the children is too much."
After all, Grandpa Zhan was the one who built the entire Zhan family. His wealth was already beyond the imagination of ordinary people.
This ten percent could even be enough for an average person's expenses for several lifetimes.
"What are your plans?" Zhan Mohan asked calmly.
"How about this? Big Brother and Sister-in-law need this money more than we do now. After the incident they experienced, they don't have much property left. Although Grandpa left them a portion, after repaying their previous debts, there might not be much left. Why don't we give them a part of this ten percent?"
Wei Yumeng thought for a long time and still felt this arrangement was the most suitable.
After all, their family was not short of money. Even if the children needed funds for their upbringing, keeping a portion to signify Grandpa's intentions would surely be enough.
Zhan Mohan did not agree: "Although I know you are doing this for their sake, Big Brother might not necessarily accept it."
Hearing Zhan Mohan's words, Wei Yumeng also fell silent.
She was not unaware of Zhan Yangyi's temperament. After the previous incident, they had all intended to help Zhan Yangyi bear some of the burden so that he wouldn't have to lose all his assets.
However, Zhan Yangyi had still refused them. Zhan Yangyi had always strived to succeed through his own efforts, even eventually starting his own company.
Perhaps he had never considered relying on anyone.
Wei Yumeng felt deflated. She truly wanted to help Zhan Yangyi's family, but if she couldn't persuade Zhan Yangyi, she knew her efforts would be in vain.
"Alright," Zhan Mohan said helplessly, looking at Wei Yumeng. "I understand your intentions. I will choose a time to talk to Big Brother. If he agrees, I will distribute that ten percent to him according to your arrangement."
Wei Yumeng breathed a sigh of relief: "Okay."
At least this way, they still had a chance to help Zhan Yangyi more.
On the other side, the atmosphere between Zhan Yangyi and Chen Yutong was somewhat heavy. Although Zhan Yangyi had no objections to Grandpa Zhan's arrangements, Chen Yutong did not feel the same way.
Even though she had convinced herself not to overthink it before, on this particular day, her jealousy still erupted.
She knew Grandpa Zhan felt guilty about previous events, which was why he gave Wei Yumeng an extra portion.
But this ten percent was indeed too much, and... and Wei Yumeng had two children, but she was now carrying twins for the Zhan family!
It was ostensibly compensation for past events, but wasn't this a form of favoritism?
Chen Yutong felt increasingly that something was amiss. They should have received something better.
Zhan Yangyi noticed Chen Yutong's unusual state and took her hand: "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
His concerned tone was like a gentle breeze, instantly dispelling Chen Yutong's negative emotions.
"No, I'm not unwell," Chen Yutong replied. "I just..."
Chen Yutong couldn't voice her true thoughts. She didn't know how Zhan Yangyi would see her if he knew.
At least she didn't want Zhan Yangyi to think of her as a greedy person.
"It's alright, are you missing Grandpa again?" Zhan Yangyi's voice was soft, as if he was afraid of touching a sensitive spot for Chen Yutong. "We have already accepted Grandpa's passing. Don't immerse yourself in grief any longer."
Seeing that Zhan Yangyi only thought she was having a relapse of her old worries, Chen Yutong didn't explain. It was better to let Zhan Yangyi believe this, as it would prevent him from probing further. "Yes, I will."
Zhan Yangyi's heart finally settled.
Just then, his phone rang again.
"Hello? Yes, it's me." Zhan Yangyi answered the call and immediately frowned. "I know, that's why I'm working hard. Give me two more days, and I can settle all the previous accident claims. Yes, I promise I won't delay any further."
Zhan Yangyi hung up the phone, his expression still grim.
In fact, such calls had been plaguing him for nearly a month.
Although the previous incident was over, subsequent audits of his company's finances and the assets he had handed over revealed a significant shortfall.
Grandpa Zhan's inheritance had undoubtedly become his lifeline. If he continued to delay, the consequences could be dire.
