Chapter 965: I Thought You...
But after waiting for a long time, no one came in.
"Hey, you useless fools, what are you doing?" Catherine shouted, her voice filled with anger.
Mu Linjing immediately laughed. "I think they might have been fed up with you a long time ago and simply don’t want to deal with you."
However, as soon as Mu Linjing finished speaking, the door was pushed open.
"Linjing!"
Standing at the door were Wei Yumeng, Zhan Mohan, and Fang Xun.
Mu Linjing was slightly stunned. When she saw Wei Yumeng, her eyes lit up. "Yumeng, I knew you would come to save me!"
Wei Yumeng walked over to help Mu Linjing up and then cast a cold glance at Catherine.
Catherine reacted quickly. The current situation was even more unfavorable for her—wasn’t this catching her red-handed?
She suddenly looked at Zhan Mohan. "Mohan, you’ve finally come to save me. We were kidnapped by those people and almost lost our lives."
"You’re lying!" Mu Linjing was truly astonished by Catherine’s audacity. "You’re the one who kidnapped me and brought me here. How did you become the victim?"
Catherine then showed the bruises on her body. "Look, these injuries were caused by that group of people. How could I possibly have done this to myself?"
Mu Linjing was speechless. Those injuries were clearly the result of their earlier fight.
"Yumeng, don’t listen to her nonsense. I can guarantee that she was the one who kidnapped me."
Catherine, however, put on a pitiful expression. "I know you don’t like me, but you can’t use personal grudges to settle scores. Kidnapping is no joke—how could I do such a thing?"
As she spoke, Catherine secretly dialed Song Lijun’s number. If things continued this way, she couldn’t be sure whether the others would eventually believe her, so she had no choice but to ask Song Lijun to take her away.
"Mom, I was just kidnapped. Please come pick me up right away."
Although the others wanted to continue questioning Catherine, seeing that she had already made the call, they didn’t know how to proceed.
Song Lijun would undoubtedly believe that Catherine was also a victim, which meant their suspicions about Catherine would not be validated by others.
Although Wei Yumeng absolutely believed Mu Linjing’s account, and Zhan Mohan and Fang Xun knew exactly what had happened, what they needed now was for others to believe them as well.
Zhan Mohan said calmly, "Alright, we can discuss what really happened later. Let’s leave this place first."
Catherine thought Zhan Mohan was deliberately covering for her and even gave him a grateful glance. However, Zhan Mohan didn’t look at her and instead walked toward Wei Yumeng.
Soon, Song Lijun arrived in person.
"Lingling, what exactly happened?" Song Lijun never expected such a thing to occur.
Catherine looked distressed. "Mom, I don’t know what happened either. I had arranged to talk with Yumeng today, but we couldn’t reach an agreement. Then, I ran into a group of men who brought me here without saying a word. I never expected Mu Linjing to be here too."
Catherine’s words undoubtedly shifted Song Lijun’s focus to Wei Yumeng. By mentioning that she had encountered the kidnappers after her failed discussion with Wei Yumeng, she was subtly implying that Wei Yumeng might have been involved in the kidnapping.
Hearing this, Wei Yumeng bit her lower lip. Catherine’s preemptive strike was indeed swift.
If she tried to defend herself now, Catherine would inevitably bring up the reason for her visit to the house. But at this moment, Wei Yumeng did not want Song Lijun to know about any of that.
Given the sensitive timing, if Song Lijun learned about what had happened between Wei Yumeng, Zhan Mohan, and Catherine, she would likely connect the kidnapping to their so-called emotional entanglements.
No matter how one looked at it, Wei Yumeng would be the prime suspect.
Wei Yumeng had no intention of playing into Catherine’s hands. She ignored Catherine’s indirect accusations and instead focused all her attention on Mu Linjing.
"Linjing, how are you? Are you hurt?" Wei Yumeng untied Mu Linjing’s ropes.
Mu Linjing looked at Wei Yumeng. "Yumeng, how can you let her falsely accuse you like that? Go tell Mrs. Feng the truth. I can be your witness."
But Wei Yumeng shook her head. "Now is not the time. We can’t let this situation get even worse."
Hearing Wei Yumeng’s words, Mu Linjing could only sigh. She understood Wei Yumeng’s concerns, but she couldn’t stand Catherine. The more they conceded, the more audacious Catherine became.
Song Lijun glanced at Wei Yumeng and Mu Linjing, then at Catherine, and seemed to understand.
"Lingling, since everything is fine now, come back with me. Let the doctor check if you have any other injuries."
Catherine nodded and obediently left with Song Lijun.
Before leaving, Song Lijun turned to Wei Yumeng with a worried expression. Wei Yumeng nodded to her, and only then did Song Lijun leave reassured.
Wei Yumeng felt relieved because it was clear that Song Lijun did not believe Catherine’s accusations against her.
Mu Linjing, however, stood up and stretched her limbs, then cursed in the direction Catherine had left.
"You shameless woman! One day, I’ll show you what I’m truly capable of, and I’ll make you regret everything you’ve done!"
"Alright, Linjing," Wei Yumeng said. "Instead of cursing her, why don’t you tell us what actually happened?"
Hearing this, Mu Linjing cast a cold glance at Zhan Mohan. "I can tell you what happened, but I don’t trust having an outsider here. I’m afraid he might turn around and side with that woman against us."
"Linjing, what do you mean by that?" Wei Yumeng was confused by Mu Linjing’s attitude.
"You’re asking me what I mean? Yumeng, have you lost your mind? Weren’t you planning to divorce Zhan Mohan? And it was all because of that woman. How can I feel at ease with him still here?"
Now Wei Yumeng understood—Catherine must have told her.
"Linjing, that’s not what actually happened. To find out where you were through Catherine, we deliberately used my divorce from Zhan Mohan as an excuse to lure her out so we could plant a tracking device on her. That’s how we found you."
Now it was Mu Linjing’s turn to be stunned. "So that’s how it was?"
Wei Yumeng sighed. "Yes, that’s exactly what happened. And I was the one who insisted on being involved. After all, you’re my best friend. No matter what, I had to be the one to save you."
Mu Linjing looked at Wei Yumeng, then at Zhan Mohan, and finally felt a little embarrassed.
"Sorry, I misunderstood. That woman was so proud when she bragged to me that I really thought you..."
