Chapter 842 The mastermind behind it was actually this

But Wei Yumeng watched her, not expecting anything. Zhan Mohan coldly stared at the man before him, the very person responsible for Wei Yumeng’s current predicament.

“If you still want to leave here in one piece, tell me what your purpose was in doing this?”

The man glanced at Zhan Mohan. “Everyone knows that woman is your wife. I originally just wanted to scare her a little and then swindle some money.”

Zhan Mohan raised an eyebrow and sneered, “For money? If it were just for money, how could you have repeatedly driven her to attempt suicide?”

“Th-that was just an accident.”

“An accident?” How could Zhan Mohan believe this man’s nonsense? “Can one accident happen twice? If I hadn’t shown up yesterday, were you planning to just choke her to death?”

Emotions churned in Zhan Mohan’s eyes, his anger clearly visible. Yet, the man remained silent.

This person didn’t seem like the mastermind behind the whole affair. His loyalty to the mastermind, probably because they held something over him.

Even if he continued to question, he likely wouldn’t get anything out of him.

However, he wasn’t worried at all; he had plenty of time to wait for this man to reveal the truth.

“You two, keep an eye on him. If he doesn’t confess, don’t give him food or water. Let’s see how long he can last.”

The man shivered at this, but ultimately grit his teeth and said nothing.

After Zhan Mohan left, the guards became even more reckless.

“How should we deal with this guy?”

“Why don’t we practice our moves? Haven’t found a suitable punching bag lately.”

“You dare!” The man felt fear, but the two bodyguards had no intention of taking him seriously.

“Why wouldn’t we dare? If we get you to reveal the mastermind, that would be a great merit.”

But even when beaten, the man gritted his teeth. No matter what, he would not reveal the mastermind’s truth, for the sake of his family.

Since things had reached this point, there was no need for Wei Yumeng to stay in the hospital any longer. Soon, Zhan Mohan completed her discharge procedures. After leaving the hospital, they went to see Stuart for another check-up.

The final results were the same as before. Wei Yumeng was still a little shaken and only needed some rest.

However, Stuart, seeing the marks on Wei Yumeng’s neck, did not give Zhan Mohan a friendly look.

Back home, Wei Yumeng felt a sense of unreality, as if she had returned from a distant land. Only now did she vaguely feel what it was like to have a home.

Before, due to that incident, she had lived in constant fear even when at home.

“Mom, we missed you so much!” Zhan Shiqing ran over crying when she saw Wei Yumeng.

Wei Yumeng held her two children tightly. “Mom missed you too.”

“Mom, we’ve grown up now. If we go out together in the future, my brother and I will definitely protect you.”

Wei Yumeng chuckled, “It’s not your fault. Things like this won’t happen again.”

Zhan Mohan watched the happy scene before him, his eyes full of tenderness. Nothing was warmer than a family reunited.

Under Zhan Mohan’s instructions, the two children were extremely attentive to Wei Yumeng for the next few days. Wei Yumeng felt that the children had matured considerably because of this incident.

“Madam, Mrs. Song and Miss Catherine are here.”

A servant approached Wei Yumeng and informed her.

Wei Yumeng nodded. “I’ll be right out.”

Saying this, she tidied herself up and went to the living room.

Upon seeing Wei Yumeng, Song Lijun was almost on the verge of tears from worry. “Yumeng, I heard you were in the hospital for a few days. How are you feeling? Is there anything still bothering you? Or should I find another doctor for you?”

When Song Lijun learned everything, she was incredibly worried. She had planned to visit Wei Yumeng two days prior but had been unable to get away, so she specifically set aside today.

“Thank you for your concern. I’m fine now.”

But Song Lijun was still insistent, examining Wei Yumeng from head to toe before finally relaxing.

“Yumeng, what exactly happened? Why were you sent to that kind of hospital?”

Song Lijun had found it hard to believe when she first heard the news, as she didn’t think Wei Yumeng was the type of person to suffer from mental illness.

“It’s a long story, but thankfully, everything is fine now.”

Seeing that Wei Yumeng didn’t want to talk about it, Song Lijun didn’t press further. Instead, she took out the nourishing supplements she had carefully prepared. “I bought these specifically for you. Eat them; they’re good for a woman’s health.”

“Mrs. Song, you don’t have to be so polite.”

“Please accept them. These are from my heart, and I’ll feel more at ease if you take them.”

Since Song Lijun and Catherine entered, Catherine had become almost forgotten. Song Lijun’s worry and attention were solely focused on Wei Yumeng.

Catherine clenched her fist silently but maintained a polite smile on her face.

“Actually, I heard some things,” Catherine said suddenly, though she seemed hesitant to ask.

She seemed to have some reservations.

“I heard that this was a deliberate act, and the person who did wrong has apparently been caught. Is this true?” Catherine asked, her tone tinged with concern.

Wei Yumeng sighed and finally nodded. “Yes, it’s true. My hospitalization was indeed intentional, but you don’t need to worry. That person has been apprehended, and such things will not happen again.”

Catherine continued, “What was that person’s motive? It’s truly detestable to do something like that.”

Catherine’s intention was clear: she wanted to know if the person had revealed the mastermind through Wei Yumeng.

“I don’t know either. Mo Han just said it seemed to be about money.” Even though Wei Yumeng didn’t believe this reason herself, the attacker had shown no mercy to her.

Song Lijun had no doubts. “People like that should be reported to the police and arrested.”

She then patted Wei Yumeng’s hand. “You must be careful with your safety from now on, understand?”

Wei Yumeng smiled. “Yes, I will.”

Catherine, however, unconsciously curved her lips slightly. This meant that the person had not confessed the mastermind, and she was relieved.

It seemed that threatening the person with their family from the beginning had been the right decision. The person probably wouldn’t have revealed a single word even if Zhan Mohan had tortured them to death.

Perhaps no one would have imagined that the mastermind behind this whole affair was actually Catherine.
