Zhan Mohan was ultimately not allowed to visit, and he left in a huff. All he wanted now was to contact Professor Stuart as soon as possible, hoping it might help Wei Yumeng escape this place faster.
As Zhan Mohan walked out of the hospital, he couldn't resist glancing back, murmuring in his heart, "Yumeng, I will definitely get you out of here."
Wei Yumeng had lost all sense of time. There was not a sliver of sunlight in this room, making it impossible to see the outside world, let alone the sunrise or sunset.
What time was it now?
Wei Yumeng desperately wanted to know, but she couldn't tell. It might be late at night, or it could be daytime.
She had cried and struggled for a long time, yet no one had come to see her. All that remained for her now was a deep despair.
Her body was also immobile; she couldn't even move a little, let alone attempt to escape.
She wanted to leave this place, but did she still have a chance?
Just then, the door to the ward opened, and it was Doctor Wang who entered.
Wei Yumeng instinctively tried to shift away from Doctor Wang. Among the voices she had overheard, one belonged to a terrifying man who had been trailing her, and the other was precisely this Doctor Wang!
"What do you want?"
Wei Yumeng intended to use her tone to intimidate him, but her voice, hoarse from previous crying, could only muster a weak plea.
Seeing that there was no one else around, Doctor Wang dropped his pretense and, with a sinister grin, approached Wei Yumeng.
"Don't you already know what I want?"
Wei Yumeng's heart leaped in fright. She tried to move away again, but escaping was proving incredibly difficult in her current state.
"You really intend to harm me. Why are you doing this?"
Doctor Wang chuckled. "Why? Someone is paying me a handsome sum, so I'm doing it. My objective will be achieved soon."
Wei Yumeng bit her lip hard, desperately searching for a way to escape this pervert.
"Stop struggling. Where do you think you can run in your condition?"
As Doctor Wang spoke, he produced a syringe, calmly drew medication from a vial, and pressed the plunger slightly, ensuring the drug had successfully emerged from the needle tip.
"No, don't come any closer! I can't take any more injections! Please, no!"
Wei Yumeng knew this was likely another sedative or some other drug that would plunge her into a deep sleep and leave her disoriented, just like a real patient. Hadn't her previous episodes been a result of long-term injections?
"You have no choice. No one will save you here."
"No, don't!"
With a surge of adrenaline, Wei Yumeng managed to push herself up and lean against the wall. She refused to sit idly by; she had to fight back.
Wei Yumeng threw herself at Doctor Wang with all her might. He dodged the first attempt, but when she lunged again, he wasn't as quick. He was knocked to the ground.
"You won't harm me with these methods again!" Wei Yumeng declared, biting down on the syringe and plunging it into Doctor Wang's arm.
Zhan Mohan had just arrived at his company from the psychiatric hospital when he received another call from the same institution.
"Is this Mr. Zhan? Your wife has seriously injured Doctor Wang. Could you please come to the hospital?"
Zhan Mohan's heart lurched, but he didn't have time to think. He rushed back to the hospital.
The first person Zhan Mohan saw was the injured Doctor Wang. His head was bleeding from hitting the ground, and he had other minor injuries. He was unconscious.
A nurse explained, "Doctor Wang went to examine Mrs. Zhan, but she suddenly became agitated and knocked him down. She even injected a syringe filled with sedative into his arm."
Zhan Mohan clenched his fists. He had placed Wei Yumeng in the hospital with the hope that she would gradually recover, but why did everything seem to be spiraling in the wrong direction? Her condition wasn't improving; it was worsening. Whose responsibility was this?
Zhan Mohan suppressed his anger and, rather than blaming the hospital entirely, paid the necessary compensation. However, he knew he couldn't leave Wei Yumeng in this hospital any longer.
Wei Yumeng sat numbly in her room. After she had subdued Doctor Wang, other doctors had recaptured her. Her restraints were now tighter than before, preventing her from even standing.
Her impulsive actions earlier were a result of Doctor Wang's intentions to harm her, not something she wanted to do. So why did everyone believe it was her fault? She wasn't lying; it wasn't a hallucination. Why wouldn't anyone believe her?
"Yumeng."
Hearing the voice, Wei Yumeng looked up slightly and saw Zhan Mohan entering the room.
"Mohan!" Wei Yumeng cried out his name, tears streaming down her face.
She was desperate to tell Zhan Mohan everything she had experienced. She believed that if he knew the truth, he would understand everything.
Zhan Mohan sat down beside her, his heart aching. Although he longed to loosen her restraints, the doctors had strictly warned him against it.
"Yumeng, please bear with me a little longer. I've found a better psychiatric professor, and I'll take you out of here for treatment then."
Wei Yumeng shook her head urgently. "Mohan, you have to believe me. I'm not like they say. I'm not sick. The reason I attacked Doctor Wang was because... because he's the one who's been harming me in this hospital. I recognized his voice, and he admitted it himself just now."
Zhan Mohan looked at Wei Yumeng and sighed. He felt that her condition had indeed worsened. Previously, it was merely hallucinations and auditory illusions. Now, she was starting to suspect the people around her and even resort to physical attacks. Perhaps the hospital's actions were unavoidable.
But he also knew that arguing with Wei Yumeng at this moment would only agitate her, potentially triggering another episode. He couldn't bear to see her suffer.
"Yes, I understand. The doctors here told me about the situation before I came."
Wei Yumeng shook her head. "Don't believe them. They've probably told you I attacked someone because I had an episode. Mohan, I'm truly not sick, and I didn't intend to hurt him. You must believe me."
Zhan Mohan pulled Wei Yumeng into his embrace, patting her back as a gesture of comfort.
"Of course, I believe you. I'll investigate this thoroughly. Give me a few more days, and I will get you out of here."
Wei Yumeng looked into Zhan Mohan's earnest eyes and nodded slowly. "I believe you, I always have."
Zhan Mohan gently kissed her forehead.
