“Dead… dead people?”
Zhang Xinyi’s eyes widened, and the excited emotions surged within her. The words were stuck in her throat before finally escaping.
“You’re getting smart now, picking things up instantly,” Bai Qing praised Zhang Xinyi, her red lips curling into a smile, showing no fear or concern about killing.
“Is… is it okay to just kill them like this?”
Zhang Xinyi covered her mouth in shock. These were living people, not one, but five or six! Bai Qing killed them so casually, as if she were just shopping for clothes.
“What are you afraid of? This is also to prevent our exposure if the mission fails. Besides, this is the worst-case scenario now.” Bai Qing picked up a wad of cash and slapped it onto Zhang Xinyi’s feet. She said dismissively, “Do you really think that under the Zhan family’s pressure, they wouldn’t expose us?”
Zhang Xinyi shook her head. The Zhan family was terrifying enough to make people tremble. There was no mouth they couldn’t pry open! Once those men in black were caught, they would be caught sooner or later.
Bai Qing was right. Only by silencing them forever could they avoid being discovered by the Zhan family.
“Only the five million in hand is real. Take your money and spend it happily, isn’t that good?” Bai Qing saw Zhang Xinyi’s gradual persuasion and added fuel to the fire.
Bai Qing’s words stirred Zhang Xinyi’s memories. She had been hiding and evading huge debts during this time. With her abilities, she wouldn’t be able to pay it off even if she lived a lifetime.
She absolutely did not want to live a dark and hopeless life, like a rat in a sewer, hated by everyone!
“You’re right, only the money in my own hands is real!”
Zhang Xinyi’s fear and worry, which had been lingering in her heart, vanished. Her expression turned a bit ferocious. She grabbed the cash in the bag, the red banknotes reflecting on her face.
“In short, my plan is thorough, you don’t need to worry.” Bai Qing picked up her teacup with satisfaction, the fragrant steam rising. She glanced meaningfully at the bedroom next door, “At worst, we still have a trump card.”
Reminded by Bai Qing, Zhang Xinyi thought of Shi Qing lying on the bed in the room and gave a knowing smile.
Meanwhile, on the highway leading to the city, several cars sped towards the police station, eventually driving onto the main roads of the urban area.
The hoods of five or six men in black were yanked off, and they sat obediently on both sides of the car trunk, silver handcuffs on their wrists.
“Brother, can you drive this car a bit steadier? I feel like I’m going to throw up…” one of the men in black suggested, covering his mouth with a pained expression.
“Yeah, yeah, I’ve been feeling a severe headache since earlier…” another man in black chimed in, holding his head in pain.
“Ugh… my stomach suddenly hurts so much, like being stabbed with a knife…” the leader of the men in black clutched his stomach, his face turning a shade of liver red as he tried to stand up from his seat to relieve the pain.
“You guys behave, we’ll be there soon.” The comrades guarding them looked at the group of men in black with confusion. They were fine just moments ago, and now they were all complaining.
The leader lost his balance and fell to the ground. His body began to convulse uncontrollably, his neck seeming to be choked, and his entire body turned an abnormal red, like a boiled shrimp.
Another man in black smashed his head against the car, groaning intermittently in pain, his body contorting like a caterpillar.
“Boss, second brother, what’s wrong with you?” The other men in black, seeing their brothers in such a state, rushed forward without hesitation.
“Don’t move, all of you, sit back down!”
The scene became chaotic. Several comrades quickly restrained the agitated men in black, while the two on the ground suddenly rolled on the ground, the car shaking violently.
“Comrade, quickly call an ambulance! Our boss and second brother are like this!” The other men in black frantically surrounded the two, their hands cuffed, unable to help the ones rolling on the ground.
Before they could finish speaking, several other men in black suddenly turned purple, foamed at the mouth, their limbs twitching wildly as if electrocuted, and collapsed onto their seats.
“What’s wrong with all of you?” The comrades exchanged bewildered glances and quickly laid everyone flat on the ground.
The considerable commotion attracted everyone’s attention. The driver quickly pulled over to the side of the road, and the cars following also stopped.
A crowd surged towards the car trunk. Red and blue lights flashed on the car, and many passersby stopped, peering curiously at the situation.
Zhan Mohan, who was following behind, furrowed his brow. He turned the steering wheel and stepped on the brakes.
Wei Yumeng and Mu Linjing also got out of the car with Zhan Mohan. The three of them only had time to glance at the situation in the car before the five or six men in black were carried out, contorted in pain with various expressions.
The crowd jostled, forming a dense ring around the area.
“Excuse us, please make way.” Zhan Mohan shielded Wei Yumeng in his arms, holding her hand as he squeezed through. Mu Linjing followed closely behind.
Upon seeing the scene before them, the three couldn’t help but show surprised expressions. The men in black, who had been groaning in pain, suddenly collapsed straight onto the ground. No matter how they were called, they remained unresponsive.
“Ambulance! Call 120 quickly!”
Several comrades shouted, then began performing CPR on the men in black.
“How could this have happened?” Wei Yumeng’s beautiful eyes widened. She tightly gripped Zhan Mohan’s large hand and whispered.
“The ambulance is coming soon.” Zhan Mohan, having just finished calling 120, glanced at Wei Yumeng’s expression, his tone laced with comfort.
After a while, the ambulance arrived in a rush. The nurses and doctors surrounded the men in black lying on the ground.
Despite the CPR, after only a few minutes, blood gushed from the mouths and noses of the men in black, staining the ground. The onlookers gasped and took a large step back.
Several doctors and nurses worked hard to rescue them, then checked their hearts and breathing. Finally, they shook their heads helplessly.
“Doctor, how are they?” Zhan Mohan, seeing the doctor’s expression, understood but still asked a few questions.
Wei Yumeng also looked at them, her lips pursed, a hint of tension in her heart.
“I’m afraid it’s too late. They are all dead.” The doctor said with regret.
Several medical personnel carried the bodies of the men in black into the ambulance, covering their horrifying and tragic states with white cloths.
“They were fine just now, what caused their deaths?” Wei Yumeng’s delicate eyebrows furrowed slightly. She narrowed her questioning eyes, clenching her hand at her side.
