The words of affirmation reached Catherine’s ears, and her eyes widened instantly, a hint of glee creeping onto her face.
“Mom, Dad, do you need me to book your flights?”
Catherine tried to hide the joy in her voice; her tail was practically wagging. After this trip, her parents would probably visit much less frequently.
“No need, Xiaolin. Your mother and I can book them ourselves. You go ahead and get busy,” Feng Zhenhua declined Catherine’s offer. He knew Catherine was fully committed to Kaiyuan Company and didn't want to trouble her.
Catherine replied with an affirmative, and the call ended. She took a deep, happy breath; this was the best news she'd had all day.
Outside the window, a light rain pattered down. Pedestrians hurried home as the sky darkened.
Wei Anguo walked, dejectedly wrapped in a rain slicker, along the rugged path. His shoes were caked with mud, and he distastefully rubbed them on the grass.
People occasionally passed by. The cemetery was quiet, save for the occasional chirping of birds.
“What rotten luck!”
Wei Anguo grumbled. He wouldn't have endured such hardship if not for the need to confirm something.
Everything that had happened at the hospital that day flashed before his eyes: the humiliation of the blood test report thrown at him, and the shock of suddenly learning the truth.
Conflicting emotions churned within Wei Anguo. He hadn't been able to clear his head for a long time, and he barely slept.
“If that’s really the case, you just wait!”
Wei Anguo cursed for what felt like the hundredth time. He finally climbed the hill and walked in step by step.
The cemetery administrator glanced at Wei Anguo but paid him no mind, continuing to recline in his rattan chair, enjoying the drizzle with a peculiar sense of contentment.
Wei Anguo spat behind him and began searching for Gu Shuyi’s name.
When Gu Shuyi had died of a serious illness, Yin Fang had insisted on throwing out her belongings. With no other option, he had packed everything into her遗物 (yi wu -遗物: remains, personal belongings left behind by a deceased person) and stored them at the cemetery's遺物保管處 (yi wu bao guan chu -遺物保管處:遺物 storage facility).
He finally found the inconspicuous corner and walked over, pulling open a drawer. It was filled with miscellaneous items, now coated with a thick layer of dust from the passage of time.
When he blew on it, the dust flew into his eyes. Wei Anguo cried out in exasperation and stumbled back a few steps.
Gu Shuyi was truly something; it wasn't enough that she was dead, her belongings had to cause him trouble too!
Wei Anguo rubbed his eyes with his hand and slowly began to go through Gu Shuyi’s files. He remembered that everything was here, including Gu Shuyi’s blood type booklet.
The words about the blood type mismatch echoed in his ears. Wei Anguo clenched his teeth. Wei Yumeng had a rare P type blood?
How was that possible!
He vaguely recalled Gu Shuyi being type A, which was why he had been so certain that day that he was definitely type P as well.
But the report showed he was type B. An A type and a B type couldn't have a P type child; he knew that much common sense!
Wei Anguo felt increasingly stifled as he thought about it. He pulled out the entire drawer and dumped everything onto the ground with a clatter. A small, conspicuous red booklet landed by his feet.
Here it is!
Wei Anguo excitedly picked up the booklet and flipped to the blood type section. It clearly stated a big A…
“I knew it, I remembered she was type A…”
A profound sense of betrayal erupted within him. Wei Anguo staggered a few steps and collapsed onto the ground, his eyes bloodshot, staring as if he could bore a hole through the spot.
Gu Shuyi in the photograph wore a faint smile, but to the current Wei Anguo, it seemed exceptionally ironic.
“See you, see you! You dare to trick me with a bastard and deceive me for so many years!”
Wei Anguo shouted, rage burning fiercely in his chest. In his fury, he tore the items on the ground to shreds and even kicked the drawer, sending it flying into the rain.
Wei Yumeng being P type blood meant what? She inherited the blood type of that adulterer!
“Gu Shuyi, you’re truly something, giving me a cuckold’s hat! Wei Yumeng doesn’t deserve the surname Wei, this bastard!”
Wei Anguo was consumed by fury. He let out continuous roars, lifting his mud-caked shoes and trampling the items on the ground with manic intensity.
This scene startled the administrator, who rushed over to stop Wei Anguo, wringing his hands and complaining.
“What are you doing! You can’t damage the遺物 (yi wu). Don’t you understand the rules?”
“Get lost! What’s wrong with me discarding this person? She doesn't deserve to leave anything behind, this person!”
Wei Anguo roared, like a maddened bull, smashing and breaking various items.
“Crazy! Go home if you want to be crazy!” The administrator called for a few people, who carried Wei Anguo away and threw him directly into the rain.
The rain grew heavier, drumming against Wei Anguo’s body, but it couldn't extinguish the fire in his heart.
“Deceiving me for so long, you thought I was easy to fool, huh? Giving me a cuckold’s hat, you’re truly capable!”
Wei Anguo lay in the downpour, his heart as dead as ashes. He was old now; he had neither the ability nor the money to have another child…
Now, he only had Wei Jin, his only biological daughter.
Thinking of Wei Jin, Wei Anguo suddenly sat up. That's right, he only had Wei Jin, the last remaining seedling of the Wei family!
“Wei Jin, my good daughter, you must wait for Dad to rescue you!”
Wei Anguo made up his mind. Since he had another daughter, he might as well take in a son-in-law. The Wei family wouldn't be without descendants.
The primary task now was to get Wei Jin out!
Wei Anguo felt like he had come back to life. He didn't care about his disheveled state and dashed home.
“Wei Anguo, where have you been these past few days? Look at yourself!”
Yin Fang opened the door and was startled to see Wei Anguo looking like a drowned rat, his face bruised and swollen.
“I was looking into something. By the way, didn't you go to beg Wei Yumeng to let Wei Jin go? How did it go?”
Wei Anguo didn't want to elaborate on the truth he had discovered; it would only bring him shame. He asked urgently.
“You said you weren't going to manage Wei Jin anymore?”
Yin Fang had never seen Wei Anguo look like this before. She scoffed disdainfully and turned to walk back into the house.
“Of course not! I had something important to do these past few days. Hurry up and tell me, did Wei Yumeng agree?”
Wei Anguo’s mind was entirely focused on Wei Jin. Seeing Yin Fang ignoring him, he was anxious to the point of jumping.
“What do you think? That cold-blooded animal, Wei Yumeng, not only refused but also had people chase me out of the hospital. I’m utterly humiliated!”
Yin Fang started crying profusely as she spoke. She had humbled herself to beg Wei Yumeng, abandoning all face and dignity, yet that person still refused to let Wei Jin go.
“Don’t cry, I’ll go beg her myself!”
Wei Anguo gritted his teeth, his expression ferocious as he felt the small booklet hidden in his pocket.
