Shi Yi

Chapter 755 Knowing People, Knowing Faces, Not Hearts

"We as a couple love children. Please, let them keep this small token of our affection." Song Lijun quickly explained her reasoning. For some reason, whenever anything concerning Wei Yumeng came up, she lost her composure more than usual.

She knew impatient effort yielded no sweet success, but especially when she saw the two little ones, that overwhelming feeling was simply uncontrollable.

Shi Qing had already been carried away by Catherine. Feng Zhenhua felt a pang of loss. He looked down at Shi Qing and Jin Zhi, who stood obediently on the floor, handing the red envelopes to the children.

"Good children, take it. We can't have you calling us for nothing. You must study hard from now on!"

Feng Zhenhua carefully exhorted Shi Qing and Jin Zhi, his earnest words like a senior's hopes for their juniors.

Song Lijun also nodded affectionately. She looked at the two children with fondness and made no further moves.

"Shi Qing, Jin Zhi, remember to say thank you." Seeing the Fengs' persistent attitude, Wei Yumeng didn't feel it was appropriate to refuse further. She raised her eyes to look at Zhan Mohan.

Zhan Mohan nodded slightly. He would send several good projects to Catherine's company, considering it a compensation for the couple's red envelopes to the children.

"Thank you." Shi Qing and Jin Zhi thanked them politely. Then, Jin Zhi pulled Shi Qing back to Wei Yumeng's side, watching her closely and preventing Shi Qing from running off again.

Catherine secretly observed her parents. After the two children ran off, Song Lijun and Feng Zhenhua looked crestfallen, their eyes almost glued to the children, watching them silently.

This scene made Catherine tremble with fear. If her mother and father had hesitated before, then after meeting the two children, they had gained more resolve.

Perhaps they might even… right then and there…

Catherine imagined the scene, her face paling considerably. She knew she couldn't linger any longer and turned to look at the couple.

"Mom and Dad, we've stayed too long. It's not good to disturb their family any further. Why don't we head back first?"

Song Lijun and Feng Zhenhua snapped back to reality and nodded hastily. The current atmosphere was not suitable for further discussion. Perhaps it was time to find another opportunity.

Wei Yumeng heard this and looked at the family of three rising to leave. She glanced at the clock on the wall. Time passed quickly, and it was almost time for lunch.

"Alright, then we'll take our leave. We hope you recover quickly." Song Lijun and Feng Zhenhua said, sincerely wishing Wei Yumeng well. A hint of fondness appeared on their faces as they looked at the children.

"Okay, thank you. Please take care," Wei Yumeng said with a smile, two faint dimples appearing on her cheeks.

Catherine nodded at Wei Yumeng, then helped the Fengs, wishing she could put wings on her feet to speed them out of the hospital.

Zhan Mohan looked meaningfully at the retreating figures. He beckoned Fang Xun and gave him a few instructions. Fang Xun vanished in an instant.

"You also think this family is a bit strange?"

Wei Yumeng's eyes deepened. She couldn't quite articulate her feelings. First, Catherine appeared unexpectedly, and then her parents traveled all the way from Country Y.

If their initial offer of Type P blood was an act of kindness, then there was no need for them to be so concerned about her subsequent recovery.

Or perhaps they were here for the generous offer from the Zhan family, wanting to foster a good relationship. But this family appeared to be wealthy and influential. Even their daughter's casual business had a branch here.

What was the reason for their such enthusiasm?

"Don't overthink it. Rest well. I've already asked Fang Xun to have someone investigate," Zhan Mohan said, his slender fingers pressing against Wei Yumeng's brow, smoothing her furrowed expression.

He gently kissed her forehead, as if to calm Wei Yumeng's mind. A dark glint flashed in his black eyes.

"Okay." Wei Yumeng gradually regained her composure. Looking at Zhan Mohan's resolute features, she felt an inexplicable sense of peace in her heart.

"And Shi Qing, how could you casually talk to strangers? Have you forgotten what Mommy taught you?"

Wei Yumeng recalled the earlier events and frowned, admonishing Shi Qing. This child was always intelligent and quick-witted; how could she have been so muddled today?

"I'm sorry, Mommy. I felt they were very nice!" Shi Qing lowered her head shyly, speaking softly and realizing her mistake.

"Have you forgotten what happened last time? You are not allowed to do this again, understand?" Wei Yumeng still felt a lingering fear when she thought of Bai Qing kidnapping Shi Qing. She couldn't let the children fall into danger again.

Shi Qing guiltily nodded her little head. Bai Qing's kidnapping had left a deep shadow on her, and since then, she had stayed obediently with Jin Zhi.

"Mommy, I will protect my sister too," Jin Zhi assured Wei Yumeng, holding Shi Qing's small hand tightly.

"Our Jin Zhi is so good, a real little man." Wei Yumeng's expression was one of relief. She ruffled the heads of both children, her heart feeling much lighter.

Fang Xun returned quickly. Zhan Mohan exchanged a few words with him. Upon entering, it was clear they were witnessing a scene of maternal love and filial piety.

Wei Yumeng looked at Zhan Mohan with a questioning gaze. The little ones nestled beside her, quietly staying put.

"The Feng couple is currently staying at a hotel. They plan to stay here for a few days and then leave, essentially treating it as a vacation."

Zhan Mohan spoke unhurriedly. Wei Yumeng listened thoughtfully, her head bowed.

"And their daughter, Catherine, has already bought a house. She intends to reside here permanently."

Zhan Mohan continued, his gaze falling on Wei Yumeng. Based on the current situation, this family posed no threat to them.

However, one could not judge a book by its cover, and many things required caution. It was just that he did not wish Wei Yumeng to worry too much about these matters.

"It's alright, focus on your recovery. Perhaps they are just here to see their daughter."

Wei Yumeng nodded. Their years of marital understanding made her clearly grasp her husband's intentions; they simply weren't being stated explicitly.

"Lunch is ready. Let's eat first." Zhan Mohan deliberately steered the conversation away from the topic. He waved his hand, and various delicacies were served, filling the entire table.

The family of four sat together, Shi Qing and Jin Zhi chatting about their school day, filling the ward with a warm atmosphere.

Meanwhile, from the moment the Feng couple got into Catherine's car, they remained silent in the back seat.

Catherine gripped the steering wheel, her eyes observing their expressions through the rearview mirror.

Her dear parents were probably still savoring the term "Grandpa and Grandma" from the other party, weren't they?

"Mom and Dad, I know a really delicious restaurant nearby. How about I take you there for lunch?"

Catherine casually asked for their opinion, stopping at a red light.

"Let's go back to the hotel directly."

Song Lijun was still lost in thought. Feng Zhenhua declined.

Her parents rarely refused her suggestions. This was the first time since arriving here. Catherine almost crushed the steering wheel. She responded nonchalantly.
