Zhan Mohan nodded to Fang Xun. "Alright, we'll wait for him here."
Saying that, Zhan Mohan actually took out work documents and began to process them, showing no signs of urgency. To Catherine's eyes, he even appeared relaxed. It was as if Zhan Mohan was certain that once Officer Liu arrived, everything would be resolved.
Catherine checked the time. Half an hour. Perhaps she only had this much time left.
Despite Wei Yumeng's fierce struggles, the man found it difficult to act.
"If you touch me again, I'll smash my head against this wall right now. Then, it won't just be kidnapping and attempted assault you'll be facing."
Wei Yumeng glared at the man before her. She could only gamble now, betting that this man didn't want to bear the severe crime of murder. She was already in a sorry state. During her struggle with the man, her arm had been cut by the ropes, and her clothes were torn to shreds by him. Anyone seeing her in this state might assume the man had succeeded. Little did they know, Wei Yumeng was risking her life to contend with this man for her honor.
The man clearly didn't believe Wei Yumeng would go through with it. After all, Wei Yumeng was a wealthy wife, and someone pampered like her wouldn't resort to such drastic measures. As he prepared to approach Wei Yumeng again, Wei Yumeng surprisingly lunged towards the wall.
Mu Linjing and the police, through their continuous investigation, finally spotted the man in the plaza's surveillance footage. Indeed, Wei Yumeng had been taken away by this very man.
"Isn't this man a well-known thug on this street?" a guard recognized him immediately.
Mu Linjing was startled. "Does that mean you can find him?"
The guard shook his head. "I can't be sure, but we can try our luck in places he frequents."
Even though there was no guarantee they could find him, it was a lead. Mu Linjing immediately said, "I'll go with you."
Twenty minutes passed. Catherine grew increasingly anxious and fearful, but how could she confess? She didn't want to, nor did she want to be caught. Did she really have to reveal everything? She calculated the time. More than half a day had passed since Wei Yumeng was abducted. No matter what, it would be too late for Zhan Mohan to rescue her. If she confessed everything, her revenge would be accomplished, and Zhan Mohan would give her the documents as promised. Wasn't this a win-win for her? But if she missed this opportunity, there would be no other chance.
Catherine took a deep breath and looked up at Zhan Mohan. "Is the deal you mentioned earlier still valid?"
Zhan Mohan put down his work and looked at Catherine. His indifferent eyes hid a hidden storm. "Of course."
"Alright, I'll tell you where she is." After stating the location, Catherine hurriedly said to Zhan Mohan, "Give me those things!"
Zhan Mohan nodded to Fang Xun. Fang Xun handed the documents to Catherine. Upon receiving them, Catherine eagerly flipped through them. But as she saw the contents, her eyes widened. "You lied to me!"
Zhan Mohan sneered. "What do you mean?"
"These documents are not an investigation into me at all. These are just... just..." Just an ordinary investigation into company projects.
"I only said I would exchange these documents with you. You were the one who assumed they were an investigation into you, weren't you?" Zhan Mohan said coldly.
Fang Xun also shrugged. "These documents have been in my possession since the moment I said I'd exchange them with you. They've never been changed, so we haven't broken our promise."
"You..." Catherine clenched her fists. She finally realized she had been tricked.
Zhan Mohan didn't want to say anything more to Catherine. He hurried out of the conference room and said to Fang Xun, "We'll take a private jet."
Catherine sat in the conference room, clutching a pile of useless documents, her anger burning. However, one thing she could be sure of was that Zhan Mohan still had no direct evidence to indict her, or she would have been sent to the police station by now. Without substantial evidence, no one could do anything to her, especially since Zhan Mohan wouldn't make it in time even if he flew there. A cold smile touched Catherine's lips, and she then left nonchalantly.
Mu Linjing and the guards had to search every possible place the man might have gone, room by room. Although time-consuming, they had no other choice. Mu Linjing could only silently pray they would find Wei Yumeng quickly. By the time they rested, it was already the next morning. They had essentially checked all the suspected locations. Mu Linjing tried calling Wei Yumeng again, but the result was the same. Perhaps due to exhaustion, she finally couldn't help but cry. "Yumeng, I'm sorry. It's all my fault. If it weren't for my negligence, you wouldn't have gotten lost."
Just then, Mu Linjing heard the sound of a helicopter. The shadow on the ground indicated that a helicopter was directly above her. She looked up slightly and saw the distinctive crest of the Zhan family. Mu Linjing immediately stood up and ran towards the helicopter, intending to meet up with Zhan Mohan.
"Why did you come yourself?" Mu Linjing said, wiping away tears.
Zhan Mohan looked at Mu Linjing's appearance and felt uncomfortable. These matters had, from the beginning, been their family's private affairs. Yet, Mu Linjing had been continuously helping them. He had already troubled her enough, and now this was placing immense psychological pressure on her. Zhan Mohan simply patted her shoulder. "Don't worry, I already know where Yumeng is." With that, the two of them hurried towards their destination.
Wei Yumeng hadn't expected that her attempt to smash her head only rendered her unconscious. However, judging by the situation, the man seemed to have been startled by her actions. Everything remained as it was before she hit the wall. She felt no discomfort in her body. The man was still several meters away, asleep on a table. Wei Yumeng shifted slightly, making a noise, but the man didn't wake up. Wei Yumeng looked at the door, which wasn't far. If she tried hard enough, she might be able to escape on her own. She slowly crawled towards the door, being careful not to be discovered with each movement. Finally, she reached the door. As soon as she stood up, she could turn around and unlock the door. But just as she was trying to stand, the man opened his eyes and looked directly in Wei Yumeng's direction.
