Wei Yumeng arrived at Feng Corporation, and to her surprise, nothing seemed to have changed. It appeared Song Lijun had not involved the company in yesterday's events.
This brought Wei Yumeng a sigh of relief. Before coming here, she had been worried she would be mocked by the employees like Catherine had been.
Wu Yi looked at Wei Yumeng with some surprise. "General Manager Wei, Young Master Zhan has already requested leave for you. Why are you still here?"
Wei Yumeng smiled. "I'm idle at home anyway, so I might as well come to work."
Wu Yi, however, shook her head. "General Manager Wei, you're already busy enough on a normal day. It's perfectly fine to rest occasionally."
Wei Yumeng suddenly asked, "Was Catherine this busy back then?"
Hearing Wei Yumeng's question, Wu Yi lowered her head, unsure how to answer.
At the time, Catherine had pushed most of the projects onto Wei Yumeng, handling only a few herself. She didn't have to worry about anything else and couldn't be compared to Wei Yumeng's current workload.
Seeing Wu Yi's reaction, Wei Yumeng understood and didn't press further.
However, Wei Yumeng was now determined. For the sake of the Feng family and Feng Corporation, she could not return the company to Catherine. She would wait until Feng Zhenhua could personally take charge of everything.
Wei Yumeng deliberately passed by Catherine's current workstation. She wasn't here today, and Catherine was probably still in the hospital undergoing treatment.
Thinking back to last night, Wei Yumeng still felt a tremor of fear.
Although Wu Yi sensed Wei Yumeng's unease, she didn't ask anything. While she didn't know what had happened between Wei Yumeng and Catherine, she knew they had never gotten along well.
"Did you guys hear? I overheard her on the phone the other day, talking about a child or something."
"A child? No way. She doesn't look like someone with a child."
"Don't just make things up. This is not a laughing matter."
Wei Yumeng was curious about the sudden conversation and walked over to ask tentatively, "Who are you talking about?"
"General Manager Wei."
These gossiping female employees hadn't expected Wei Yumeng to be there at all. They exchanged glances, and after a moment, someone dared to speak up.
"We're talking about Catherine."
Wei Yumeng was also taken aback. "You're saying Catherine is pregnant?"
Even Wu Yi was surprised by this news. She had been one of Catherine's closest confidantes, and if Catherine were unwell, she would have known.
But in fact, she hadn't noticed anything at all.
"Yes, but we all think there's something fishy about it. We've seen her frequently these past few days, and she doesn't look pregnant at all."
"That's right. I even saw her eating things she shouldn't be eating. She ate all those things pregnant women should avoid with gusto."
Wei Yumeng found it rather puzzling. She had never heard of this before, and judging by Song Lijun's demeanor, she probably didn't know either.
So, if Catherine had indeed called someone about a child, who would have forced Catherine to tell such a lie?
There was only one answer: Kai.
If Catherine wanted to keep Kai's support, the best way would be to tell him she was pregnant with his child.
As a woman herself, Wei Yumeng easily grasped this logic.
Although she had long forgotten about Kai, this incident had just reminded her.
Catherine was clearly resorting to increasingly extreme measures, even harming herself. Such behavior was not far from madness.
Wei Yumeng couldn't just sit back and wait. Perhaps it was fate that this clue had surfaced now; she had to take the initiative.
And Kai was her latest lead.
Back in her office, Wei Yumeng inquired further from Wu Yi about Catherine's pregnancy. However, the answers were as expected; everyone doubted that Catherine was pregnant. Therefore, if she could prove this, she might be able to make Kai reveal everything. Then, even if Catherine denied it, it would be impossible.
Wei Yumeng spent almost the entire day contemplating this matter and finally went home after work.
Upon arriving home, she found Fang Xun and Zhan Mohan already in the living room.
"Madam, welcome back," Fang Xun said respectfully.
Wei Yumeng had no time for pleasantries and hurriedly said to Zhan Mohan, "I suspect Catherine is using the false news of her pregnancy to deceive Kai into staying with her. If we approach this from that angle, we might make a breakthrough."
Hearing this, Fang Xun let out a chuckle, and Zhan Mohan shook his head helplessly, his eyes filled with amusement.
This left Wei Yumeng somewhat confused, unsure what was happening. She looked at them, bewildered.
Fang Xun then explained, "Madam, it's like this. Young Master Zhan just discovered this clue as well. We've just finished investigating major hospitals today, and it's almost certain that Catherine has not undergone any prenatal check-ups at any hospital, or rather, no hospital can verify the authenticity of her pregnancy."
"So, Catherine isn't pregnant after all."
Zhan Mohan nodded. "Think about it. Kai has been in the detention center for some time. Even if Catherine was pregnant before that, it would have been a while ago. It's impossible for her to show no signs like she is now."
Wei Yumeng also nodded. "I think so too. I've actually investigated at the company. Everyone is skeptical about the news of her possible pregnancy because there are no signs of it."
Fang Xun watched the couple exchanging words, not having investigated simultaneously yet but coincidentally stumbling upon the same matter. He wondered if this默契 (mòqì - unspoken understanding) was fate or simply a result of their close relationship.
"Since this has been confirmed, why don't we tell Kai about it and see his reaction? Perhaps he will be willing to confess everything," Wei Yumeng suggested, though she wasn't entirely sure. After all, Kai's devotion to Catherine wasn't solely because of the child.
Zhan Mohan nodded in agreement. "We'll go together first thing tomorrow morning."
Then, he turned to Fang Xun. "Tonight, prepare all the evidence proving Catherine is not pregnant and give it to me at the entrance of the detention center tomorrow."
Fang Xun nodded. "Okay."
Wei Yumeng clenched her fists. She knew tomorrow's meeting was crucial. If it failed, Catherine would know their investigation direction, and it would become even more troublesome.
