Zhan Mohan rushed over immediately after hearing the whole story.
Although Wei Yumeng had already told the local police the specifics of the situation, the local officers seemed accustomed to such incidents. After recording the details, they even left without any intention of investigating, leaving Wei Yumeng to figure things out herself.
Zhan Mohan thought for a moment and suggested, "Mrs. Chekhov, why don't we handle this matter? You can go back and wait for our good news."
"This..." Mrs. Chekhov was still hesitant. She naturally wanted to find such an important item herself.
Wei Yumeng also chimed in, "Don't worry, I will definitely find it for you, no matter what it takes."
Mrs. Chekhov sighed and finally agreed, "Alright, but let me call some bodyguards to help you. Just let us know if you need any assistance."
"Okay," Wei Yumeng replied with a smile.
Mrs. Chekhov then left with some reluctance.
In fact, Zhan Mohan had his own reasons for making this offer. In that area, Mrs. Chekhov's reputation was well-known everywhere. It was likely that the thief targeted her precisely because they knew she was wealthy.
After Mrs. Chekhov left, it was more convenient for the two of them to investigate.
"Wife, what should we do next?" Zhan Mohan asked, deliberately leaning closer to Wei Yumeng.
Wei Yumeng looked at him helplessly. She had initially thought that Zhan Mohan had come up with a plan when he proactively asked Mrs. Chekhov to leave.
Wei Yumeng thought carefully, "I think we should go to the place where I first saw that person. I remember that was the first time I felt that gaze, and the person didn't try to hide it at all. This means he was likely active in that area and just happened to see us there, which is when he got greedy."
As Wei Yumeng spoke, she felt her reasoning wasn't particularly solid. What if that person had been following them all along, and she just hadn't noticed?
But at least it was a lead.
"Alright, let's go check it out first," Zhan Mohan said, as if he had no doubts about Wei Yumeng's judgment.
Perhaps it was due to Zhan Mohan's outstanding demeanor and strong presence, but as they walked, people passing by would instinctively make way for them.
This made Wei Yumeng a little embarrassed.
Finally, they arrived back at the intersection where Wei Yumeng spotted a familiar stall. This stall had been there at the time of the incident.
So, she boldly walked over and asked, "Excuse me, have you seen a man before, thin and small, with somewhat dark skin, and wearing clothes that look roughly like this..."
As she spoke, Wei Yumeng showed the stall owner a drawing of the clothes she had made earlier.
The man looked for a while, appearing disdainful at first. Suddenly, he looked up and saw Zhan Mohan's somewhat dangerous gaze. He couldn't help but swallow.
"I know this person. He lives around here. He's a petty thief who usually steals from tourists like you, so we locals don't really care about him."
Wei Yumeng glanced at Zhan Mohan, who nodded at her.
They had likely found the right person.
"Do you know where he lives?" Wei Yumeng asked, placing some money in front of the man.
As expected, the man immediately smiled and said, "Yes, I do. These petty thieves don't have proper homes, but they all live in the dilapidated houses behind the street."
Wei Yumeng smiled at him, "Thank you."
The matter was proceeding more smoothly than expected, and Wei Yumeng felt relieved.
She had initially planned to hand the matter over to the police if they couldn't find the person.
As for Mrs. Chekhov, she could only see if the master jeweler had an identical necklace.
Just as Wei Yumeng was about to head towards the direction of the street, Zhan Mohan stopped her.
"That area is a gathering place for petty criminals, so the security must not be good. You shouldn't go there. I'll send some bodyguards to check it out."
Although Wei Yumeng was still a bit uneasy, she knew that even if she went, she might not be able to help much.
"Okay, I'll listen to you."
After Zhan Mohan made the arrangements, he and Wei Yumeng returned directly to the hotel.
They had originally planned to have an unforgettable night, but this sudden incident had forced them to postpone it.
Zhan Mohan was a little disappointed but couldn't do anything about it. At least Wei Yumeng was always by his side.
"Mohan, do you really think we can catch that person?" Wei Yumeng was too worried to sleep, as she had promised Mrs. Chekhov and naturally felt more anxious.
Zhan Mohan remained calm, "Even if we can't catch that person, we can still recover the necklace."
Wei Yumeng heard this and was puzzled, as if Zhan Mohan knew exactly what the thief would do with the stolen necklace.
"Mohan, do you know something?"
"Yes," Zhan Mohan admitted straightforwardly. "Before coming here, I had Fang Xun investigate the situation. The business district here is no different from ours; it appears calm on the surface, but there's a lot of underlying turmoil."
Wei Yumeng then realized, "You mean this was a planned event?"
"That possibility is very high," Zhan Mohan analyzed. "If I'm not mistaken, Mrs. Chekhov is very familiar with that street and likely visits it often."
Wei Yumeng thought for a moment, "That's right. Mrs. Chekhov was very knowledgeable when she explained the situation there to me, even knowing what each shop did."
"So, if Mrs. Chekhov goes there often, why did that person choose to act at this particular time?"
Despite Zhan Mohan's words, Wei Yumeng still felt it was a bit far-fetched. Perhaps this was just a coincidence.
Zhan Mohan continued, "Perhaps you don't know, but the Chekhov family is currently in a bidding war with several other companies. Mr. Chekhov is absent at this time, leaving Mrs. Chekhov in charge. And it just so happens that Mrs. Chekhov's most prized necklace was stolen at this very moment."
Wei Yumeng then connected the dots. This meant that because Mrs. Chekhov's reputation was so widespread, her capabilities and influence were naturally well-known. Actively antagonizing the Chekhov family would not be a wise move.
However, at this point, everything seemed to make sense, yet there was no proof of a connection between these events. It was still possible that the person had acted on a whim.
Zhan Mohan noticed her worry and simply held her tighter, "Don't worry, everything will be clear tomorrow."
