Chapter 1343 An Unexpected Decision

It was no surprise to Zhan Mohan that Zhan Yangyi needed Geng Sitian’s information. In fact, he seemed to have expected it, and had Fang Xun hand over the files to Zhan Yangyi.

“She’s from a remote area?” Zhan Yangyi finally understood why she had been bullied.

Fang Xun nodded. “Her hometown is in the suburbs of Pengcheng, and her family situation isn't very good. The reason she was hired back then was because Zhan’s Group was participating in a poverty alleviation project, and she was quite capable, so we brought her in.”

Zhan Yangyi thought for a moment. He remembered that the project had only recently concluded. This meant that according to Zhan’s Group regulations, Geng Sitian was still in her probationary period.

With a poor family background and still an intern, it was no wonder she became a target for bullying by arrogant, long-term employees like Hu Cheng.

Zhan Mohan glanced at Fang Xun again. Fang Xun continued, “Although she hasn’t been with the company for long, she hasn’t made any mistakes so far. She’s diligent in her work. It’s said that she was the one who drafted a project proposal before. Of course, we only found out about this later. Hu Cheng had taken all the credit for himself at the time.”

Now Zhan Yangyi had a clearer understanding. The information provided by Zhan Mohan was undoubtedly reliable, and he felt a good impression of Geng Sitian.

“Mohan, I’d like to ask for someone…”

Wei Yumeng had been spending a lot of time with Chen Yutong recently. Today, they had been so engrossed in conversation that by the time she returned home, Zhan Mohan had already finished work and was back.

“I’m sorry, Mohan, I’m back late.”

Zhan Mohan showed no displeasure. He simply asked, “Did you go to see Chen Yutong again today?”

“Yes, she’s much more spirited now, which has put my mind at ease. She also said she wouldn’t give up on pursuing Big Brother and would work hard to win him back,” Wei Yumeng said, a smile gracing her lips.

While she didn’t know the final outcome, she could feel that Chen Yutong was happy when she spoke of her determination to get Zhan Yangyi back. It seemed that as long as Zhan Yangyi remained her goal, she would continue to feel happy.

Hearing this, Zhan Mohan was reminded of what had happened during the day and was slightly taken aback.

“What’s wrong?” Wei Yumeng asked him curiously.

Zhan Mohan recounted the events to Wei Yumeng.

“Big Brother is having Geng Sitian be his assistant in the end?” Wei Yumeng sounded surprised.

Although she didn’t think Zhan Yangyi had any other intentions in making Geng Sitian his assistant, it still meant another woman was entering the picture, which would likely make Chen Yutong’s path to winning him back much more difficult.

Zhan Mohan mused, “Before I gave him the information, I had already reviewed it. She is indeed a good woman. Despite her humble background, she has consistently achieved good results, is diligent in her work, has a decent personality, and is quite attractive.”

“This is bad…” Wei Yumeng suddenly panicked. “If she’s as good as you say, isn’t there a high chance Big Brother might develop feelings for her in the future?”

Zhan Mohan didn’t answer the question, as no one could predict what hadn’t happened yet.

“However, I can say with certainty that at least now, Big Brother chose her purely based on her abilities.”

Wei Yumeng, however, felt this was the biggest crisis for Chen Yutong and Zhan Yangyi. “No, I think I should go and inform Yutong, so she can be mentally prepared.”

Just as she was about to make a call, Zhan Mohan snatched her phone away and pulled her into his arms.

“Alright, we shouldn’t interfere in matters like this,” Zhan Mohan said calmly in her ear. “Big Brother and Chen Yutong have already broken up, so they have no relationship. If Geng Sitian is truly a good woman, I would hope she could be with Big Brother.”

After hearing Zhan Mohan’s words, Wei Yumeng also calmed down. She had to admit that he was right.

If, after getting to know each other, Geng Sitian truly captured her elder brother’s heart, then their efforts to reunite Zhan Yangyi and Chen Yutong would be futile.

“Why don’t we just see how things develop?” Zhan Mohan suggested.

Wei Yumeng finally nodded. “Okay, I’ll listen to you.”

Before Geng Sitian could even process what had happened, she had already become Zhan Yangyi’s assistant and reported to a subsidiary of Zhan’s Group the next day.

Although the subsidiary was not as grand as Zhan’s headquarters, it was still a large company in Pengcheng. For an intern like her to suddenly become the president’s assistant was an unimaginable turn of events.

She still couldn’t quite believe it and pinched her cheek to confirm she wasn’t dreaming.

“As you can see, this is where you will be working now, and you are my assistant. I have very high standards for my assistants, so I don’t expect any major mistakes in your work,” Zhan Yangyi said, giving Geng Sitian a warning look, implying severe consequences if she erred.

“Mr. Zhan, I will definitely strive to do my best in everything,” Geng Sitian replied very seriously, without paying much attention to Zhan Yangyi’s warning.

Zhan Yangyi nodded. “Good, your work starts today. Please arrange my work schedule for tomorrow and submit it to me before you leave today. I need to familiarize myself with the projects here today, so don’t disturb me.”

“I understand,” she said, then turned and left the office.

Stepping back into the corridor, she couldn’t help but take a deep breath. The current situation was all thanks to Zhan Yangyi. He had given her such great hope, and she absolutely could not let him down.

After a busy day, she finally handed Zhan Yangyi her meticulously revised schedule, her heart filled with trepidation. She wasn’t sure if her arrangement would satisfy him, as it was the first time she was presenting her work to him.

Zhan Yangyi carefully reviewed the schedule, but remained silent, his expression as serious as ever.

Geng Sitian was extremely nervous. The more one wanted to avoid disappointing someone, the more pressure they put on themselves, just like she felt now.

Finally, Zhan Yangyi put down the document and looked up at Geng Sitian.

Geng Sitian also looked at Zhan Yangyi, but her demeanor was like a prisoner awaiting sentencing.

“You seem very nervous?” Zhan Yangyi couldn’t help but ask, finding it hard not to notice Geng Sitian’s current state.

“I… I…” Geng Sitian’s voice trembled.

“There’s no need to be so nervous. We’ll be working together from now on, you can’t be this nervous every time you see me.”

“I’m sorry!” Geng Sitian immediately said.

Zhan Yangyi sighed. It seemed it would take some time for Geng Sitian to adapt to her new role.
