Chapter 1376 The Same Process, Different Results

"What are the findings of the investigation?" Zhan Mohan looked at Fang Xun.

"It has now been confirmed that the wife's vitamins were indeed tampered with. Additionally, we have investigated the cup the wife used for milk and found traces of medication residue."

"So that's how it is..." Zhan Mohan frowned. He had truly not expected that someone who wanted to harm Wei Yumeng would be within their own household.

"What is the situation with Mr. Wu?"

Fang Xun continued, "We have a lead on that as well. We discovered that one of the maids had met with this Mr. Wu before. However, the surveillance footage only captured their meeting, and it's unclear what transpired between them."

"Keep a close watch on him. Also, see if this maid has had any recent contact with anyone else."

"I understand."

Zhan Mohan looked at the surveillance footage. The maid had been working for them for a long time, and he never imagined such a person would poison Wei Yumeng.

Moreover, Wei Yumeng and this maid had always had a good relationship, which was why he was unsure how to convey these matters to her. She would likely only be saddened upon hearing about them.

With this thought, he clicked a few keys, and another screen appeared on the computer, displaying the current conference room.

"Mr. Wu, it's been a long time," Wei Yumeng said politely, extending her hand to Mr. Wu.

Mr. Wu smiled at her. "It seems Miss Wei is in good spirits."

"Thank you for your concern. I am fine now," Wei Yumeng replied courteously.

"Oh, really?" Mr. Wu didn't think so.

Wei Yumeng had already suffered a setback at his hands before, and now she had proactively proposed continuing other projects with him. This was not something a rational person would do.

However, after receiving confirmation from a certain individual, Mr. Wu felt that perhaps this was an opportunity to extort another sum from the Zhan Corporation. Such opportunities were rare.

"Miss Wei, may I ask you a question?"

"Please do."

"Why are you still approaching me? I believe you are aware of what happened previously."

Wei Yumeng replied calmly, "Because I believe what happened last time was merely an accident, and this time, I am capable of ensuring this project is completed perfectly."

"That's quite an willful approach," Mr. Wu chuckled upon hearing this.

In his eyes, Wei Yumeng was a stubborn woman, unfortunately lacking in foresight. This time, he was destined to win.

"I don't think so. The Zhan Corporation originally belonged to our Zhan family. How I choose to proceed is my own business," Wei Yumeng stated, seemingly finding nothing amiss.

"Since Miss Wei has said so, I will not pursue this matter further. Let us discuss the project," Mr. Wu suggested, eager to see the Zhan Corporation falter once again.

The project they discussed was essentially a continuation of the previous one, so Wei Yumeng found it easy to explain, requiring only additional planning based on prior preparations.

"Mr. Wu, if you believe my proposal is acceptable, we can sign a new contract."

As Wei Yumeng spoke, she took out a pre-prepared contract from her bag.

The scene was almost identical to their previous meeting.

Immediately after, Wei Yumeng felt a wave of dizziness.

"Miss Wei? Are you alright?" Mr. Wu inquired, but without a hint of concern. Instead, his eyes held a trace of triumph.

After confirming that Wei Yumeng was unresponsive to his calls, he said, "I used to think that any woman who could become Mrs. Zhan Mohan would be extraordinary. Now it seems she is merely a cute, ordinary woman."

From then on, the contract was entirely in his hands. He only needed to feign that everything was settled when Wei Yumeng regained consciousness and get her signature to finalize everything.

"What should I write this time? How about demanding a subsidiary of the Zhan Corporation? What do you think?"

As Mr. Wu spoke, he casually picked up a pen from the table and made some modifications to the contract.

Approximately twenty minutes later, Wei Yumeng regained consciousness and saw Mr. Wu with a wide smile.

"Miss Wei, I am delighted to continue our cooperation. This matter is settled. Please do not go back on your word."

As expected, Wei Yumeng showed no suspicion. "Then I wish us a pleasant cooperation."

With that, Wei Yumeng signed the contract first, followed by Mr. Wu.

"Mr. Wu, once this is signed, it cannot be changed," Wei Yumeng suddenly said.

Mr. Wu chuckled. "Naturally."

Wei Yumeng nodded. "Then have you truly examined what this contract entails?"

As she spoke, she unfolded the contract before Mr. Wu. It was then that he realized something was amiss. The modifications he had made had vanished.

Wei Yumeng explained, "Mr. Wu, the pen you used was specially made. After twenty minutes, the ink slowly disappears, which is why you can't see anything."

Mr. Wu was shocked. He had never anticipated being defeated by a pen.

Wei Yumeng continued, "Mo Han and I were quite puzzled as to why you were reluctant to produce the contract. Later, through surveillance, we discovered that you were altering the clauses on the spot during the meeting. This means that even if you had presented the contract, we could have still refused to execute it on the grounds that the time of your amendments was unclear. Therefore, we used this to our advantage to have you sign this contract."

Mr. Wu reached out to snatch the contract, but Wei Yumeng dodged, preventing him from touching it.

"Mr. Wu, do you know what it means to treat someone as they have treated you?" Wei Yumeng looked at the clauses on the contract. "I presume Mr. Wu believed he would succeed again this time, and therefore did not carefully read what was written in the contract, correct? So, let me tell you now. Article One: Wu Party pledges that the first contract loses its legal effect and cooperates with the Zhan Corporation's investigation. Article Twenty-One: For benefits obtained through illicit means that are inconsistent with the project, Wu Party shall compensate the Zhan Corporation with three times the project's profit... and so on..."

These clauses were scattered throughout the document to prevent Mr. Wu from finding them all at once.

Mr. Wu's excessive arrogance, believing he was certain to succeed, made him careless due to his overconfidence.

"No, this doesn't count! I... I didn't check the contract properly!"

Wei Yumeng simply said, "Mr. Wu, the names are already signed. It's too late to regret it now... Or would you prefer to confess everything you know? Perhaps then we might show you some leniency."

Mr. Wu's arrogance and self-importance vanished. Did he have any other choice now?
