Zhan Yang Yi always felt that the day spent with Chen Yu Tong was incredibly comfortable.
Everything seemed to have returned to the way it was before they divorced.
Several times, Zhan Yang Yi couldn't help but wonder if all his previous conflicts and worries had been in vain.
Sensing Zhan Yang Yi's gaze, Chen Yu Tong turned to look at him. "What is it?"
Zhan Yang Yi simply curved his lips. "Nothing. I just feel that this kind of feeling is truly nostalgic."
Hearing Zhan Yang Yi's words, Chen Yu Tong's heart stirred.
If Zhan Yang Yi felt nostalgic, did that mean he still had feelings for her?
Could she still fight for them?
"Yang Yi, how about we..."
Just as Chen Yu Tong was about to propose reconciliation, she was interrupted by Zhan Yang Yi's phone ringing.
Zhan Yang Yi didn't answer immediately. He looked at Chen Yu Tong, waiting for her to finish her sentence.
But Chen Yu Tong sighed, "You should answer your phone. It might be something important."
Only then did Zhan Yang Yi pick up the call. A hint of disappointment washed over him, as if he had missed saying something important.
Watching Zhan Yang Yi talk on the phone, Chen Yu Tong didn't feel any better.
She had almost proposed reconciliation, but after the interruption, she lost her courage.
Regarding her relationship with Zhan Yang Yi, she was self-aware. From the time they met until their divorce, many things were due to her own issues.
Based on this alone, she didn't even have the confidence to propose reconciliation.
Yet, she still didn't want to give up.
"What did you say?" Zhan Yang Yi sounded incredulous. "You're saying Geng Si Tian took some company project contracts?"
Zhan Yang Yi clenched his fist. What else did this Geng Si Tian want to do?
It was precisely because he hadn't fired her, giving her space to think, that such a betrayal had occurred.
Project contracts were vital to the company. Her actions had crossed his bottom line.
Zhan Yang Yi hung up the phone, his good mood completely gone.
Chen Yu Tong could tell something had happened just by looking at his expression. "If you have something to attend to, you should go. I can go back by myself."
Though she said this, she couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. She had wanted to spend more time with Zhan Yang Yi.
For her now, moments like these together were so precious.
"I'm sorry. I didn't expect anything to happen," Zhan Yang Yi said, sounding somewhat deflated.
"Alright, hurry up and go. Don't delay things," Chen Yu Tong reassured him.
Zhan Yang Yi nodded and then turned to leave.
Watching Zhan Yang Yi's retreating figure, Chen Yu Tong felt a wave of sorrow.
Perhaps it was because of their current relationship, but Zhan Yang Yi's departure always left her with a sense of loss.
"Yang Yi, when will you come back to me?" she murmured to herself, but there was no one to answer.
Zhan Yang Yi rushed to the company and saw security personnel gathered, along with other project managers.
"Mr. Zhan, about half an hour ago, Geng Si Tian came asking for the contracts, saying you needed them. I didn't think much of it and gave them to her. But later, I realized something was wrong. She was supposed to be on leave, so why would she suddenly show up?" the manager said, sounding regretful.
Zhan Yang Yi didn't blame them. Everyone knew Geng Si Tian was his assistant. She was his choice, so others naturally let their guard down. The most important thing now was how to retrieve those contracts.
"Did the surveillance cameras capture anything?" Zhan Yang Yi asked the security guards.
"The cameras recorded her movements. After she left the company, she seemed to head towards the street on the right. And here..." The guard zoomed in on the surveillance footage, showing Geng Si Tian making a phone call. "It looks like she has accomplices in this matter."
Zhan Yang Yi tried to calm himself and think. The reason Geng Si Tian might have done this could be because Zhan Yang Yi had rejected her. If so, she likely wouldn't act on the contracts until she contacted him. As for who Geng Si Tian was calling, that could only be known after contacting her.
With that thought, he dialed Geng Si Tian's number, but no matter how many times he called, there was no answer.
"You three, come with me to Geng Si Tian's place. And send some people to search around the company for any other clues."
After giving instructions, Zhan Yang Yi immediately left the company.
After Zhan Yang Yi left, Chen Yu Tong didn't leave right away. She just wandered aimlessly on the street.
Without Zhan Yang Yi, she felt like an empty shell, with no purpose and no idea where to go.
After all, she lived alone in her current residence; it couldn't even be called a home, merely a place to live.
Chen Yu Tong checked the time on her phone. Over an hour had passed, and Zhan Yang Yi should have arrived at the company by now. Thinking of Zhan Yang Yi's anxious demeanor earlier, she worried and wanted to know how things were going at the company.
Just as she was about to call Zhan Yang Yi, her phone rang first.
When she answered, it was an unfamiliar female voice.
"Hello, Ms. Chen."
"Who are you?" Chen Yu Tong became wary. The voice sounded full of malice.
"I am Geng Si Tian. I want to talk to you about Mr. Zhan's affairs. Do you have time now?"
Chen Yu Tong didn't answer immediately. She suspected Geng Si Tian's true intentions. If it was about their previous incident, then Geng Si Tian had undoubtedly won, and everything had been cleared up by Zhan Yang Yi. So, what else would Geng Si Tian need to talk to her about?
Chen Yu Tong quickly realized that the only common point between her and Geng Si Tian was Zhan Yang Yi. Perhaps her previous mischief wasn't entirely without merit; at least this Geng Si Tian clearly had other intentions towards Zhan Yang Yi.
"What's wrong? Doesn't Ms. Chen have the courage?" Geng Si Tian's tone was somewhat arrogant. She had clearly lost all sense of reason.
Chen Yu Tong took a deep breath. "Speak. Where should we meet?"
Geng Si Tian gave her an address and hung up.
Chen Yu Tong looked at the address. It wasn't far from her current location; it was the highest point in the area. She didn't know why Geng Si Tian chose such a place, but even for Zhan Yang Yi's sake, she couldn't back down. With that thought, she resolutely began to walk towards her destination.
