Wei Yumeng returned to the office, still feeling uneasy. She couldn't recall anything discussed during the meeting.
However, logically, the contract she had prepared in advance should have been fine. If they proceeded as per the contract, there shouldn't be any issues. Her only worry was about unforeseen circumstances.
With this thought, she nervously pulled up the electronic version of the contract on her computer to check.
The moment she opened the file, a wave of dizziness washed over her again.
The text on the screen seemed to wriggle like worms, making her feel nauseous.
The harder she tried to shake off this sensation, the worse it became.
Wei Yumeng stood up, wanting to look at something else, hoping to alleviate her symptoms. But as soon as she rose, all her strength drained away, and she lost consciousness.
"Mr. Zhan," Fang Xun approached Zhan Mohan. From his expression, it was clear something had happened.
"What is it?"
"Madam, the project Madam signed has encountered a problem," Fang Xun said, also sounding a bit tense.
Everyone knew how much Zhan Mohan cared about Wei Yumeng. Even if the project ran into trouble, Zhan Mohan might not blame Wei Yumeng directly. However, other related personnel might not be so fortunate.
Zhan Mohan frowned. He was aware of Wei Yumeng's recent condition, but he hadn't expected the problem to surface so quickly.
"What exactly is the issue?"
Just as Fang Xun was about to reply, someone else found Zhan Mohan.
"Mr. Zhan, something bad has happened. Miss Wei... Miss Wei fainted in her office..."
Zhan Mohan didn't hesitate. He rushed out of his office to find Wei Yumeng. He even regretted not being more forceful in insisting she stay home to rest.
When Wei Yumeng woke up, she was in the hospital, with only Zhan Mohan in the room.
"Mohan, I fainted?"
Wei Yumeng still remembered what had happened before she lost consciousness.
Zhan Mohan said softly, "Yes, but it's alright. You're in the hospital now. The doctor has examined you, and the results will be out soon. But until then, you need to stay put in your room."
Wei Yumeng lowered her head, unsure whether to voice her concerns.
This matter involved the company's project, and she had to take responsibility.
"Mohan... I..." Wei Yumeng hesitated, feeling guilty and worried that Zhan Mohan might blame her.
Zhan Mohan reached out and held her hand. "You don't need to worry about anything right now. No matter what happens, I will help you."
"So... the project really has a problem, hasn't it?" Wei Yumeng asked.
Zhan Mohan's words had already made it clear what had occurred.
"It's all my fault. I should have listened to you and rested at home. Then I wouldn't have messed things up," Wei Yumeng said, lowering her head again. "I just wanted to help, and I'm truly sorry."
Zhan Mohan took a deep breath. "I'm not blaming you. It's normal for projects to encounter issues, and this problem isn't severe. Don't overthink it."
Although Wei Yumeng nodded, she still couldn't relax.
Zhan Mohan gently pulled her into his arms and stroked her back. "You just need to remember that no matter what happens, I am by your side."
Wei Yumeng also reached out and hugged Zhan Mohan softly.
"Mr. Zhan..." Fang Xun had just entered the room and felt he was intruding, preparing to retreat.
However, Wei Yumeng called out to him, "It's alright, just tell us if there's anything."
Fang Xun still hesitated, but seeing that Zhan Mohan didn't object, he continued.
"I've already contacted Mr. Wu, but the situation is dire. He's unwilling to cooperate with our proposed changes."
"May I ask what the problem is?" Wei Yumeng still wanted to understand.
Fang Xun then explained, "It's a clause in the contract. It states that before the project commences, Zhan Group must pay eighty percent of the cost, with the remainder to be paid based on the project's completion."
Wei Yumeng froze upon hearing this. She had absolutely no recollection of such a clause.
"Mohan, I... I really don't remember this clause. How could I have done something like this?"
Wei Yumeng couldn't believe she would have drafted such a clause.
She tried hard to recall what had happened at the time, but nothing came to mind. Only the persistent dizziness warned her not to push further.
Zhan Mohan, as usual, remained calm. "First, have him produce the original signed contract. We need to confirm that the contract signed is indeed ours and not one he modified himself. If they refuse to produce the original contract, then we have grounds not to honor its contents."
"I've already informed them of this, but there's no result yet," Fang Xun said, still worried. "But based on their current attitude, it won't be easy."
Zhan Mohan gently helped Wei Yumeng lie down on the bed and covered her with the quilt.
"If they refuse to cooperate, then don't blame us for disavowing the agreement. I want to see if this is a mere coincidence or if this Mr. Wu is involved."
Wei Yumeng's sudden illness had already raised suspicions. Now, coinciding with the project issue, it was hard not to wonder if her condition was related to the project.
If this was all a plot by Mr. Wu, deliberately harming Wei Yumeng before their discussion and then taking advantage of her compromised state during the contract signing to do as he pleased.
"Mohan, you suspect..." Wei Yumeng naturally grasped Zhan Mohan's thought.
"Yes, but I'm not certain yet. We'll know more once your examination report is out."
"Excuse me, are you Ms. Wei Yumeng's family?" At this moment, a nurse entered the room.
Zhan Mohan stood up. "Yes, I am."
"Her examination report is ready. However, our doctor needs you to come over. Miss Wei's condition seems rather complex."
Wei Yumeng's heart sank. Complex? This made her automatically think of the worst-case scenario.
"Alright, I'll go with you," Zhan Mohan replied, then turned to Wei Yumeng. "Rest well, I'll be back shortly."
Despite her unease, Wei Yumeng nodded. "Okay."
Wei Yumeng was left alone in the room. She stared at the white ceiling, a sense of inexplicable fear enveloping her.
Although she had faced situations before where she was on the verge of going mad, at least then she was sure of her own sanity.
But this time was different. She herself didn't know what was wrong or what she should do.
