Chapter 154: Bruce Is Not So Nice to Horton
Bruce frowned when he thought he might be alone at night for a month.
Although he didn’t mind Halle living with them for a long time, he was a little unwilling because Halle would be the third wheel.
However, he had no choice!
Halle pretended not to read his mind but calmly said, "I’m afraid a month is not enough. There is more than a month away from the due date. I will continue staying with her during the confinement period."
Thus, it should be about two or three months.
Hearing this, Bruce, who had been hesitating just now, made up his mind. With a deeper furrow between his brows, he pursed his lips.
He was sure that he didn’t want Halle to live with them at all.
Halle ignored Bruce’s long face and smiled. "Sorry, I have no choice. Hilla is worried about me and insists that I should live with you. I’m sorry for trespassing upon your time."
Halle didn’t want to go back to River City with Hilla. Halle had her own life and was used to everything in the countryside, so it would be inconvenient for her to live in the urban area.
However, the due date was around the corner. In this world, Hilla was the only one
Halle trusted and could rely on. Halle had felt a little guilty about disturbing them.
But seeing Bruce’s expression, she felt it was quite interesting.
She thought, with the third wheel, Bruce might hold deeper feelings for Hilla.
In short, Bruce’s anger right now revealed how much he cared.
Although he was unwilling, hearing what Halle said, he had to bite the bullet and said in a deep voice, "Never mind. If you live with us, Hilla would be more at ease."
After Bruce finished speaking, he stared at Halle’s belly and began to curse the baby’s father in his heart.
Not only was that guy irresponsible, but he caused trouble for Bruce.
That guy deserved it that he didn’t know he had a baby.
In the car outside the door, Horton was waiting quietly and staring nervously at the door. Suddenly, he sneezed, with a chill down his spine.
How ruthless Bruce was! After he walked into the room, Horton had been waiting here alone for a long time. What was worse, Bruce kept Horton out of the door.
Thus, Horton was anxious, but he was afraid that Halle would be unhappy when she saw him, so he did not dare to enter the door.
As Horton was muttering, he saw a man, who was in his thirties, walk out of the
house next door. This man looked plain and had dark skin. He held a bulging black bag in his hand and went into Halle’s house.
This man even didn’t knock on the door, which meant that he was on familiar terms with Halle.
Horton was stunned. Through his glasses, he stared sharply at the door and tightened his grip on the steering wheel.
That man had entered the house while Horton was still sitting in the car, so Horton was anxious. ’What is Bruce doing? Anyhow, we are related to each other. Has he said a good word for me?’
Hilla followed Halle’s request and packed all the things up. In the end, Hilla found there was not enough room in her car.
Halle prepared too many things for the baby, not to mention that she would stay in Hilla’s house for a few months. Therefore, Halle had to take a lot of luggage. Even though they had packed up quite a bit last night, and despite Bruce’s help, Hilla was all sweaty.
"Halle, will these all come in handy? Why does it take so much to take care of a baby?"
Hilla was now glad that she was not pregnant. She got thrown when looking at these things. If she had to study how to use them, she would go crazy.
Halle nodded and carefully looked around at what she wanted to bring. Then, she looked up at Bruce and gave him some tissues to wipe his sweat, saying with a smile, "It will take a lot to look after a baby. You will know it when you have one. But I think Bruce won’t think it annoying."
Bruce pursed his lips. Unexpectedly, he gave Halle a little nod. Hilla immediately fell silent. With a guilty conscience, she glanced at him.
’It seems he wants a child. What should I do? That strange feeling comes again.’
Hilla thought it was so difficult to be a woman. Nearly everyone insisted she should have a baby. However, she was afraid that her career would be ruined if she had a baby so early.
While she was struggling, she looked up and saw Mario.
"Mario, what are you coming for?"
Hilla realized it could be an excuse, so her eyes lit up.
She looked more beautiful with a smile. Seeing this, Mario smiled with some embarrassment. "My wife has gone to visit her mother. When she knew you were going back to the River City today, she asked me to bring some jerky for you. We made them by ourselves, so they are very clean."
Afraid that Halle and Hilla would refuse, Mario was a little bashful and embarrassed.
Halle took the jerky and smiled. "That’s so sweet. Since I got pregnant, I have been fond of the jerky she makes. For fear that I can’t eat it in River City, she asks you to
bring some here. Thank you very much."
Mario chuckled. "You’re welcome. It isn’t worth much."
The country folk had many things to eat, so Halle took out some clothes that she hadn’t worn and gave them to Mario in return.
"My belly is getting bigger and bigger. I haven’t worn these clothes, but I don’t fit into them. I made them myself. If Lilian doesn’t mind, she can give them a try."
"Of course not."
Mario quickly shook his head. He knew Halle and Hilla came from a wealthy family and paid special attention to food and clothes. Moreover, it was said that the Holts’ clothes were custom-made, so the clothes Halle gave must be very expensive.
"You have so many things to move. Do you need my help?"
When Mario saw the luggage on the ground, he thought, ’The rich people always prepare many things for the baby. In the countryside, we just need diapers and powdered milk.’
"Thank you, but Bruce will move these into the car."
Halle smiled gently. Mario looked up at Bruce, who stood opposite him and nodded with a smile.
Mario thought, ’This man looks super rich, but he is even willing to move these boxes for Halle and Hilla. How fantastic they are!’
After Halle saw Mario off, she suddenly saw that a man was standing near the car, which shocked her.
She didn’t expect to see another man here.
Horton’s face was gloomy, but when he saw Halle look over, he tried to be mollified.
<What’s the relationship between that man and Halle? He stayed in her house for twenty minutes, and she even saw him off.
What was worse, they both smiled and looked familiar with each other. It seems the clothes in his hands may well belong to Halle.>
"Dr. Hutt, why are you here?"
After hesitating for a moment, Halle walked to him and asked.
Horton calmed down. Under the light, his glasses flashed and he looked at her with a gentle smile. "I arrived a long time ago, but no one invited me in."
...
Hilla was about to move these things out with Bruce when she saw Halle enter the room. Behind Halle was Horton, who was out of nowhere.
"Why are you here?"
Hilla was surprised and couldn’t help asking.
Horton looked towards Bruce, who was standing opposite him, and said in a somewhat angry voice, "You should ask your husband."
Bruce asked, "Why me? You followed me here."
As expected, Hilla turned to look at Bruce, "Did he come with you?"
But Bruce never mentioned that Horton was waiting outside.
Although they were related to each other, Bruce shouldn’t have kept Horton outside the door for so long!
"I heard Halle didn’t feel well, so I think it will be better to bring a doctor."
Bruce said calmly and didn’t look guilty at all. He didn’t care what Horton was thinking.
Hilla nodded. "You are right. If there is anything wrong on the way back, Horton can fix it. But next time, you may as well find a female O.B. because Horton can’t deliver the child."
An annoyed look came into Horton’s face as he said in a low voice, "Although I don’t major in gynecology and obstetrics, I’m better at first aid than you. Besides, childbirth always takes a long time."
He didn’t know how to deliver a baby.
Although he was also a doctor and had participated in a lot of research on diseases, he had never tried to learn something about childbirth.
However, it was different now. Given that Halle needed it, he decided to learn it for her.
"Forget it. Anyway, I’m glad you are here. Help us pack up the luggage, and then we can return to River City earlier."
Hilla was more at ease with Horton. He is Bruce’s relative, so she was related to Horton as well. Moreover, Halle couldn’t move the luggage with such a big belly, so Hilla was very happy that Horton could help them.
Beside them, Halle pursed her lips and did not speak. She looked indifferent and a little awkward.
"It’s late now. I’m afraid we should have lunch after packing up. I’ll take something to eat on the way."
Halle looked at Hilla and said, "Hilla, give me a hand."
Halle was pregnant, so she grew stronger on a diet than ordinary people. Hilla nodded right away and gave the things in her hands to Horton. Then, she turned to Bruce and said, "Please move these into the car."
After that, she took it for granted and happily went to the kitchen with Halle.
Bruce looked at Hilla’s back gently. He was willing to do whatever Hilla asked him to do. He would even do whatever it took to get the moon for her.
On the contrary, Horton was staring at their backs thoughtfully and wondered why Halle was always disgusted at him.
Was he so annoying?
With Bruce’s and Horton’s help, the luggage was quickly moved into the car.
Halle locked the door and asked Hilla to send a box of snacks and candies to Lilian’s house.
"Halle, why did you not give Mario when he was here? I don’t want to go."
Hilla complained in the car. Halle chuckled. "I forgot just now. Besides, we can’t eat these snacks all. I’m afraid they will go bad."
"That box is too heavy."
Although Bruce wanted to help Hilla, she refused. She was not weak or spoiled, so she could lift heavy things as well.
"I know you are strong. No wonder Bruce is at ease."
"Halle, I see you are making fun of me!"
Halle and Hilla sat alone in the car, teasing each other, but in the car behind them, both Bruce and Horton were wearing gloomy faces.
Apart from Halle, Hilla didn’t ask anyone else to get into her car. And she put everything into Bruce’s car.
Horton glanced at Bruce and said, "The car is full and crowded. Now that you are here, why not go to Hilla’s car?"
Bruce turned to look at Horton deeply, and then threw the key to Horton.
"Thank you!" Bruce got out of the car and closed the car door with a bang, walking to Hilla’s car.
Holding the key, Horton was left in the car with a confused face. Only when he saw that Hilla helped Halle get into her car and drove away did he realize what was going on.
Bruce left in the same car with Halle and Hilla.
Therefore, Horton had to go back alone with so lots of luggage.
Horton gripped the key tightly and complained, "I am related to Bruce, but he cares about nobody but himself. What a ruthless man!"
...
"Horton is very nice. Not only did he follow you here, but he is even willing to carry our luggage. Bruce, I think you should give him a pay raise."
As a professor in the hospital, Horton was usually as proud as a peacock.
It was normal for Horton to treat someone of Bruce’s status, but it was surprising that Horton had helped Halle and Hilla so much in succession.
Although Horton was related to Bruce, Hilla always felt that Bruce was not so nice to Horton!
"He has dividends in the hospital. He doesn’t need me to pay him."
Bruce was driving the car. Although he couldn’t be alone with Hilla, he was satisfied that he was in the same car with her. Even the air around them smelled great.
It would be painful for two men to be in the same car without anyone else.
"Horton is tall and handsome, so he must be very popular among the nurses in the hospital. But he is a little worse than my husband."
After praising Horton, Hilla flattered Bruce at once in case Bruce would be jealous.
Bruce, who was driving the car, did not respond, but the smile on his lips revealed that he was in a good mood!
Halle, who was sitting beside Hilla and looking down, burst out laughing. Hilla immediately blushed.
"In Hilla’s mind, Bruce is the best."
Halle said as she laughed, because of which Hilla blushed for a while.
When arriving in River City, they didn’t go home. After dinner, Halle felt a little uncomfortable, so they went to the hospital in a hurry.
"Doctor, what’s wrong with my sister and the baby in her belly? Are they going to be all right? Is it the premature labor?"
"Miss, don’t worry. I can’t answer your question before I have a look at her. Can you wait outside with your husband?"
The doctor shrugged. It was just a fake contraction. They didn’t have to be so nervous.
Halle glanced at Bruce and smiled, "Bruce, please take Hilla out for a while."
Bruce nodded and took Hilla out of the consulting room. Hardly had they come out when Horton, who had been pulled away by the director, ran towards them.
"How is Halle?
"How is the child?
"Does her belly still hurt? Is she going into labor?"
Bruce and Hilla both rolled their eyes and thought, ’It’s none of your business!’
