Chapter 108: S-Rank Dungeon: First Wave
Aiden had figured out the mythical creature behind it.
Malgias were one of the most malevolent creatures often mistaken for demons due to their inherent evil nature.
A hundred years ago, during the war against the Demon King, Malgias fought against the Human Race. And when the Demon King and his cohorts were sealed into the demon realm, Malgias being part of his forces were sealed alongside.
Generally, they were creatures of great intelligence, and wherever a Malgia marked as territory, it would go on to build very complex structures around.
At this point Oliver had involuntarily fallen to his knees, crying "Please stop, please stop."
Whilst Arianna was visibly crying in anguish whilst trying in futile attempts to block off the sounds.
The words they heard from this creature affected their very souls and made them relive their worst possible fears.
Such were the effects of the Tormenting Voice of a Malgia.
-----
Now that Aiden knew what the source of the problem was, solving it became easier. In fact, too easy.
He immediately stretched his hand towards Arianna and Oliver and used the copied spell.
[Light Magic: Guard]
At that moment, an aura of light magic enveloped them both, and the malevolent voices in their heads shrieked before dispersing away from them both.
Light Magic’s affinity was a natural counter to things relating to the dark and evil forces.
Malgias were very much malevolent creatures of darkness, and so a simple guard spell of light magic would be able to protect against their voices.
They had been slowly recovering from the effects of the voice of torment when the voice in the background then spoke to Aiden directly.
"What is another one of your kind doing here? Was one of you not enough?"
The Malgia had detected Aiden as a dragon, which is why it couldn’t get into his head in the first place.
Instead, he said, "You Malgias are pretty good at hiding, but I will find you and I will end you."
The malevolent voice laughed back sarcastically and replied, "You may have saved these ones with you, but what about the anguish the rest of them are facing?"
The Malgia was referring to the rest of the members of Ravens Grave who were currently also under the effects of the Malgia’s voice.
Then the voice laughed a bit more before dispersing out of the background.
"Another one of my kind? Here? What did it even mean by that?" Aiden thought to himself, then sighed.
He chose to think about that later, because he knew it wasn’t over. Not just yet.
He helped Oliver up and he said "Thank you," then he went over to Arianna to know how she was doing. She rubbed her forehead slowly as she was currently feeling this ache.
"Hey, are you fine?" Aiden asked. His voice was calm and showed concern.
She nodded and said "I’ll be fine."
Aiden nodded back and turned to move further, when suddenly Arianna held his arm.
This halted him in his tracks, and when he turned, Arianna said, "Thank you," with her eyes almost teary.
Aiden smiled and nodded again, without saying anything else.
He moved further as intended, and soon after they slowly continued on their way into the dungeon.
A part of him had worry in his heart for the rest of the guild, hoping that they would have been able to fight off the voices in their head.
And another part of him somehow knew they would find a way to scale through.
-----
As Aiden had hoped, most of the members of the guild scaled through.
Katherine had been able to safely bring Laela and Bernard to safety by casting an Intermediate level spell: Evil Warding.
The effect of the magic was to ward cursed spirits and evil away from the immediate surroundings.
Due to this, the Malgia’s tormenting voice did not last long.
-----
Elena had taken care of the malevolent voices casting the same intermediate level spell. Aside from Aiden, she was the only other mage in the guild with vast knowledge of supplementary spells.
-----
On Kayden’s part of the field, they had survived the ordeal as well but due to a much more crude method.
Kayden had to become a living flashbang.
He cast a lightning spell which made lightning burst from his body in an extremely bright fashion, coupled with the crackling effect of his lightning that boomed like thunder to stun the ears and throw the people around him off balance.
His Lightning Bolt-Flash spell was generally intended to temporarily blind and disorient his enemies with a bright flash and loud noise.
But using this in this desperate moment, there was no way the voices in their heads would be of any bother if they were too disoriented to focus on it.
Kayden himself survived the effects because he was practically the source point of the flashbang.
-----
After another while of walking, Oliver asked, "What about the creature, Big Brother?"
"It’s called a Malgia and it’s here somewhere," Aiden replied.
"A Malgia?" Arianna then asked again with a puzzled expression on her face. It was evident she had never heard of that before and was somewhat fascinated by how extensive Aiden’s knowledge of these creatures was.
"Yes, they are evil creatures of magic, and if everything I’ve read on them is true, then we have one other possible problem to face," Aiden said with a grim look on his face.
"What other problem might that be?" Arianna asked again, sounding nervous in a way and hoping it had nothing to do with those torments from earlier.
Before Aiden got to that question, they all heard footsteps approaching them.
Both Arianna and Oliver’s eyes widened with shock when they saw the figures that approached.
Except Aiden, who totally anticipated this. In fact, this was the problem he was just about to speak on.
The figures were stone sculptures. One of the sculptures was a fine copy of Arianna.
And the other sculptures were fine copies of Haman and his friends.
This was the Malgia’s ability to bring people’s worst fears into reality!
