The man beside the squad leader saw he didn’t understand what his companion had said in Japanese, so he translated for him.
The squad leader understood they were threatening him, afraid he was hiding something. Resentment surged within him. He had immediately notified his superiors to retrieve the item, yet now they suspected him. It was infuriating.
But he knew that a single word from these people could seal his doom. "I understand," he said. "I’ll go back in a few days and check if anything was missed."
Yunyi watched them separate. She then switched her focus to the two men who had met the squad leader, tailing them deep into the mountains.
I’m sure of it now. These two are from that group I ran into before.
To avoid startling the enemy, she decided not to follow these two for now. Besides, they would keep operating in the mountains if they couldn’t find what they were looking for.
