An Jing continued to ask, "You must have discovered something too, right?"
Xi Xianya looked at him and said, "Zhao Jianhua's assistant is named Xia Ming, which is the Chinese name for the person in charge of the company registered abroad. I suspect Zhao Jianhua used his assistant's name to register the company."
An Jing said, "That makes sense. He originally registered the company abroad to deal with me and Tianyi, but we saw through it. He failed to harm us with Xie Zhendong, so he used this company to do other bad things, which led to your father's company being harmed and indirectly caused your father's death."
"Indirectly?" Xi Xianya asked disbelievingly, "Could he have killed my father?"
An Jing couldn't answer her question because there was no evidence to prove it.
"The evidence we found can only prove that the batch of contraband belonged to the foreign company, which means it belonged to him. Your father was deceived by him and was unaware of it. But how your father committed suicide is hard to say. Perhaps your father couldn't bear the blow of the company's bankruptcy and committed suicide, or perhaps he did it."
He spread his hands.
Xi Xianya nervously asked, "Can you hand over the evidence you have that proves my father's company is innocent to the police?"
Before An Jing could answer, Yi Feng quickly replied, "No, absolutely not now!"
She and An Jing looked at Yi Feng simultaneously, both not understanding why he was so opposed.
Yi Feng explained, "Right now, Xia Ming is the only witness who can prove your self-defense. If Zhao Jianhua's group gets into trouble at this time, will his wife and Xia Ming still help you? No matter what, we must wait until your own case is concluded before we can talk about avenging your father."
An Jing couldn't help but nod, feeling that Yi Feng had a point.
However, Xi Xianya couldn't be at peace with getting herself acquitted first and then delaying her father's vindication.
"It doesn't matter if I go to jail or not. What if the person who harmed my father escapes if we wait any longer?"
An Jing said, "The person who truly harmed your father, Zhao Jianhua, is still lying in the hospital in a coma. He can't escape. Xia Ming is likely his accomplice. I'll have someone keep an eye on him. It's not too late to deal with him after your case is over."
Yi Feng strongly agreed, "If your father were still alive, he would definitely want you to be well. How could he rest in peace if you, pregnant, were to go to jail?"
An Jing helped Yi Feng persuade her, "What is dark cannot become light, and what is light cannot become dark. The injustice your father suffered will eventually be revealed. There's no need to rush."
Xi Xianya nodded with difficulty and said, "I'll listen to you. I'll live my own life well from now on and won't be as ignorant and naive as before."
Yi Feng held her tightly, hoping that she would be alright in the final trial and be found not guilty.
...
After Zhan Jiayi was taken to the Commercial Crime Investigation Bureau, she was completely bewildered by the police's inquiries.
She had never done the things the interrogating police officers mentioned, so she couldn't answer or plead guilty.
She had already drunk six or seven cups of coffee, and the two police officers interrogating her had lost their patience.
A female officer said sternly, "Mrs. Xie, we wouldn't invite you here for coffee without concrete evidence! If you don't confess truthfully, we can still convict you!"
Zhan Jiayi asked curiously, "If I haven't done these things, how do you have concrete evidence? How can I confess?"
"Now you are supposed to answer our questions, not ask them."
"I've already said it many times, I can't answer your questions," Zhan Jiayi said, feeling very tired. "Where is my lawyer? I want to see my lawyer."
The female officer was about to say something else but was stopped by her male colleague, who gestured for her to go out for a discussion.
The two police officers got up and left the interrogation room, leaving her alone inside.
Zhan Jiayi had no choice but to lean on the small table in front of her. She wanted to sleep but had drunk too much coffee to do so.
About half an hour later, the two police officers returned, presumably having discussed and decided on a strategy for further interrogation.
The same female officer spoke first, asking, "Have you thought about it? Can you confess now?"
"Officers, I really haven't done the things you mentioned, like tax evasion, fraud from investors..."
"Bai Chengyi, you know him, right?" the male officer interrupted her.
Zhan Jiayi nodded and said, "Yes, he's a manager of a subsidiary under Xie's group. He's the one who actually committed the crime, and we've already handed him over to the police."
"Yes, he committed more than one commercial crime, and we will deal with him." The male officer stared at her and said, "However, when he confessed his own problems, he also implicated you."
"He implicated me? I haven't even spoken to him, what could he implicate me for?" Zhan Jiayi felt even more bewildered.
The female officer, losing her patience, took out a printed bank statement and placed it in front of her, saying, "Look for yourself! This is a bank account under your name, isn't it? There's a huge deposit that exactly matches the amount of your tax evasion. And these daily incoming funds are all transferred to you from investors' personal accounts."
Zhan Jiayi was completely stunned. This bank account was indeed in her name and opened with her ID number.
But she didn't remember when she had opened this account, nor had she seen the details or the incoming remittances.
"The facts are clear, what else do you have to argue?" the female officer said. "Based on this evidence, we can convict you. Asking you to confess now is giving you an opportunity for leniency."
Zhan Jiayi suddenly thought of something and asked, "Did you find out when this account was opened? When was it opened?"
The female officer said with amusement, "You don't even know when your own account was opened, what are you pretending for?"
"Can you tell me when it was opened? I really can't remember."
The female officer told her disdainfully when the account was opened.
Upon hearing the time, Zhan Jiayi's face turned deathly pale. She was with Zhao Jianhua at that time.
Zhao Jianhua had given her a few bank cards at the time, saying it would be more convenient to transfer money to her sometimes.
She hadn't paid much attention and had gone with him to open some bank cards, but she remembered that all those bank cards were in her possession.
Later, she had also canceled all the bank cards she had opened at the time. Could it be that Zhao Jianhua had secretly kept one of her bank cards?
And why would Bai Chengyi know her bank card and still hold onto it? She couldn't figure out what had gone wrong.
"This card is mine, but I had long forgotten its existence. I don't know how these funds were transferred into it."
"Ha, do you think anyone can be fooled by what you're saying?" the female officer said helplessly. "It seems we can only detain you for now."
