Chapter 238: Chapter 104: The Sound of Jade Pillows and Hairpins Breaking_1

The rain intensified, and the silver candles burned quietly on the desk.

Under the flickering light, two people stood facing each other in the room.

After a long silence, Lu Tong spoke, "How did you recognize me?"

She should have realized earlier; with Pei Yunmeng insisting on pouring wine, watching the zither performance and dancing, and even offering a shoulder rub, it was clearly deliberate teasing. Yet she had thought this was just Pei Yunmeng’s nature, flirting intentionally with the summoned dancers.

However, she was wearing a veil and her makeup was elaborate, not to mention she hadn’t uttered a sound. How did Pei Yunmeng recognize her?

The young man sighed and shook his head, "Other girls have eyes brimming with affection, but your eyes... they can radiate a murderous aura within a ten-mile radius."

He laughed, "Who could you possibly fool?"

Lu Tong: "..."

She truly wanted to blind this man right in front of her with a handful of ash.

Pei Yunmeng took a sip of his tea, gave her a smiling glance, and said, "Doctor Lu seems a bit different today."

Usually, she always wore a plain face and old clothes, and she tied her hair in a braid for the convenience of practicing medicine and preparing drugs, showing an indifferent attitude towards others. But today, she wore a dazzling chiffon dance outfit with gold-embroidered peacocks on the peacock blue fabric, her waist as slender as willow twigs, and the light blue veil was thin and soft, with tassels swaying, revealing those beautiful eyes.

Her eyes were naturally stunning in shape, with slightly droopy outer corners, giving her an innocent appearance. After her eyebrows and eyelids were drawn, the color of her eyes deepened, making them even more dark and lustrous, which lent her a certain cold beauty.

Today, she didn’t braid her hair, and her black tresses cascaded down like a waterfall, interspersed with thin braids, which was the decorative style of the Alien Race. Combined with the tinkling of silver adornments all over her body, at a glance, she exuded a myriad of charms.

Pei Yunmeng looked at her with a half-smile, "Blessed with such tender eyes, yet you carry such a heavy murderous aura." He reminded her, "Doctor Lu, if you keep killing people so recklessly, what will you do when your future husband finds out?"

Lu Tong, already angered by his earlier mockery, retorted, "Lord Pei is so fond of frequenting brothels. What will your lady wife do when she finds out?"

Pei Yunmeng raised his eyebrows, "When I have a wife in the future, I will not frequent brothels anymore."

Lu Tong said sarcastically, "Then I am not as generous as the Marshal. If my future husband finds out, I will just kill him."

The room fell quiet for a moment.

After a while, Pei Yunmeng spoke up, "What did you come here for today?"

He glanced at Lu Tong and leaned back in his chair, "To kill your future husband?"

Lu Tong did not want to talk more with him. She had already delayed too long here, and Qi Yutai’s whereabouts were still unknown. However, being spotted by Pei Yunmeng now, given his cunning, he would likely be watching her next move. Today could be considered a failure.

"It’s getting late, I won’t disturb Lord Pei’s good time. I’m leaving now." Lu Tong deliberately avoided his question as she spoke and headed for the door.

"Leaving so soon?"

"I fear being seen and tarnishing the Marshal’s good name." After saying this, she walked towards the door.

He ignored Lu Tong’s sarcasm and chuckled from behind, "Doctor Lu seems not to understand the situation. Do you really think you can leave?"

Lu Tong stopped in her tracks and turned to look at him coldly.

"It’s not me," he said, tilting his chin towards the direction of the door, "the third floor of Yuxian Tower isn’t accessible to just anyone. This is the West Pavilion, so it’s okay, but," he glanced outside, "the East Pavilion is guarded."

"I don’t know what you plan to do, but barging in here so haphazardly, you’ve likely been discovered by now. I would guess they’re waiting for you to walk right into their trap outside."

"Doctor Lu, you’ve attracted attention."

Lu Tong felt a shock in her heart.

Guards in the seemingly unwatched corridor of the third floor?

Since she came upstairs and entered the room, apart from being led away by the Pimp, Yin Zheng, she had encountered no obstructions whatsoever.

In an instant, a chill swept up from the depths of her heart, like a mantis stalking a cicada and suddenly realizing the approaching oriole behind.

As if to confirm what Pei Yunmeng said, noisy footsteps followed, along with men’s sharp commands outside, as if the sounds of officials searching were arising.

Lu Tong quickly turned to Pei Yunmeng.

He sat in the center of the room, bathed in the gentle glow of the Pearl Lamp, his gaze not quite discernible.

"Who are those men outside?" Lu Tong asked.

"I don’t know, noblemen, and distinguished guests—it’s all the usual suspects."

Lu Tong stepped closer to him, "Can the Marshal help me?"

As she spoke, her voice softened slightly, trying to draw upon their acquaintance.

According to Pei Yunmeng, the people outside were of high status and already aware that someone had infiltrated the third floor. Once discovered, she would be targeted as a suspect. If those outside weren’t Qi Yutai, that would be a relief, but if they were from the Qi Family, she would have inadvertently alerted them to her presence.
