Chapter 314: Chapter 126 Winning Light_2
"That’s right, that’s right!"
Pei Yunmeng’s demeanor paused slightly as she coldly glanced at the person who was egging others on.
Lu Tong, however, didn’t mind and reached out for the second arrow.
This time, her movement with the bow was much more skilled than the first, not looking as clumsy. Pei Yunmeng took a small step back, no longer holding Lu Tong’s arm to guide her as before. Lu Tong stared intently at the distant "福" character and released the string once more.
"Whoosh—"
The arrow flew out.
"Just missed it!" The onlookers beside them slapped their thighs in frustration, as if they were the ones who had missed the shot, "It was so close to the character, what a pity!"
Lu Tong, however, maintained an unchanged expression.
The lamp vendor chuckled and handed Lu Tong the third arrow: "Miss, don’t be discouraged, it’s okay, we still have one more, make sure to aim well this time!"
Pei Yunmeng, with arms crossed, leaning against a column, watched with a smile as Lu Tong placed the last arrow on the longbow.
The surroundings gradually fell silent, and the crowd that gathered to watch couldn’t help but hold their breath.
At the start, seeing that the woman was slender and frail, they thought she couldn’t even lift a bow and arrow, but who knew, after shooting twice, both times were beyond expectation.
Lu Tong prepared the bow and arrow, the "福" character hanging in front of the stall was bright red, joyfully vibrant, amidst the dazzling lantern lights creating a blurred liveliness.
She focused intently on that vibrancy and suddenly pulled back on the bow—
The red-tasseled arrow, like a red magpie with a long tail, joyfully surged toward the target.
And hit the bullseye with absolute precision!
The crowd around instantly erupted into cheers!
Even the lamp vendor looked at this seemingly delicate young lady with newfound respect: "Miss, that’s some excellent archery!"
Lu Tong put down the bow and arrow, and Pei Yunmeng walked over to her side, tilting his head to look at her and said, "Quite some strength, how did you train?"
The Buffalo Horn Bow was not lightweight; even ordinary men had to exert some strength to draw it. The reason why so many people were excited earlier, and why cheers erupted now, was because Lu Tong appeared too fragile, and no one believed she could draw it.
But she did draw it.
"I trained by murdering and burying bodies," Lu Tong answered earnestly.
Pei Yunmeng: "..."
He gave Lu Tong a glance, not caring about the nonsense she had just spouted, and simply asked, "You hit the target in three shots, had you known how to shoot before?"
To say Lu Tong was some archery prodigy who could do it at first glance was indeed a bit of a stretch.
Lu Tong turned to look at him, smiling slightly: "I never said I didn’t know how."
"..."
He was rarely left speechless.
For some reason, seeing Pei Yunmeng at a loss, Lu Tong felt her mood inexplicably brighten a bit.
You could say it was his own superiority complex, looking down on others, thinking she couldn’t draw the bow, and wanting to play the teacher by offering "guidance" voluntarily. But it should be known that although she was no archery master able to send an arrow through the eye of a needle, she was fairly competent at drawing a bow and shooting arrows. After all, the "福" character was just on the wall, not like hunting in the mountains where the prey could run and jump.
Hunting lifeless objects was much simpler than living ones.
"Miss, you hit the ’福’ character, come and pick a lamp!" the vendor beside her interrupted Lu Tong’s thoughts, and she raised her eyes to look ahead.
There were all sorts of lanterns hanging inside and outside the small stall tent: silk, dragon and phoenix, peony flower, white rabbit... They were dazzling under the night sky.
Lu Tong’s gaze settled on one spot, and then she took the bamboo pole from the stall owner’s hand and started to pick from the cluster of lamps overhead.
As soon as the stall owner saw, he laughed: "Miss has good taste, there’s only one Butterfly Lamp left, just right to take home for you!"
The Butterfly Lamp hanging high was shaped like a pink butterfly, covered with a layer of thin gauze, on which gold powder was used to depict designs, making it particularly eye-catching.
Lu Tong’s bamboo pole deftly crossed the butterfly’s wings but picked down the lamp next to it instead.
The vendor was dumbfounded.
Pei Yunmeng slightly raised his eyebrows.
After a long moment, the vendor hesitantly looked at Lu Tong: "Miss, did you pick the wrong one?"
Lu Tong took down the Toad Lamp hooked on the end of the bamboo pole and held it in her hand: "I didn’t pick the wrong one, I just like toads."
The Toad Lamp in her hand was yellow-green all over and made so realistically large that even the folds on the toad’s skin were vividly detailed, really not matching a beauty.
But the beauty was indifferent and seemed especially pleased with the "ugly toad" in her hands.
The vendor watched Lu Tong with a complicated expression and managed to squeeze out after a long pause: "Miss has a unique taste, truly different from the common folks."
Lu Tong held the lamp, nodded to the vendor, and was about to leave. But the vendor stretched out a hand to block Lu Tong’s way and said, "Miss, you haven’t paid yet!"
Lu Tong was taken aback and frowned: "Didn’t you say, if I hit the ’福’ character, I could have a lamp for free?"
