Chapter 483: Chapter 174: Girl No. 17 - Part 3
He couldn’t possibly appear every single time.
One couldn’t place their hopes on others.
After a moment of silence, Lu Tong spoke, "It’s alright, let’s take it one step at a time."
The hostility from the Grand Preceptor’s Mansion had come prematurely, and upon returning to the Medical Officer Institute, she was about to face an even fiercer onslaught of challenges, but...
But fortunately, some things had reached the point where they were bound to happen.
In the following days, the Grand Preceptor’s Mansion should be very busy, too preoccupied to deal with her, a mere "ant."
As she was thinking this, a shadow flashed across the white tent, and Ji Xun’s voice arose from outside, "Doctor Lu."
Lin Danqing was taken aback and asked Lu Tong in a low voice, "Why is he here?"
Lu Tong shook her head.
During the daylight hours on the mountain, Ji Xun spoke up for her in a way that was unexpected not only to others but also to Lu Tong herself.
If Pei Yunmeng spoke for her, it might be due to their past acquaintance, but Ji Xun was no different from a stranger to her at present, and their only conversation in the Medical Officer Institute had ended on a sour note.
Unable to find a reason for him speaking on her behalf, Lu Tong attributed it to his inherent goodness and integrity, which compelled him to speak out for justice.
Lin Danqing, holding a medical box, stepped out. The tent curtain was lifted, and another person entered.
Lu Tong looked towards Ji Xun.
He took two steps inside, still in his usual cool and detached demeanor. His gaze fell on Lu Tong, and he asked, "How are your injuries?"
His tone was concerned, albeit as distant as ever.
"Not too bad, not too serious," Lu Tong replied.
He nodded, "I have obtained dog brain tissue; apply it to your wound tonight."
Lu Tong looked up in surprise.
Medical texts had recorded, "Anyone bitten by a dog will have flare-ups every seven days; if no episodes occur after twenty-one days, then they are free of danger, but they will only be truly safe after a hundred days."
"It is said that ’killing the dog that bit you and applying its brain to the wound will prevent further incidents.’
Lu Tong wasn’t worried because she had heard from Lin Danqing that although the dogs from the Qi family were known to bite, there hadn’t been cases where a bitten person suffered from rabies or died shortly after, so the situation was not particularly dangerous.
On the other hand, she also had other medicines to prevent this condition.
But she hadn’t expected Ji Xun to go to the length of obtaining the greyhound’s brain matter for her.
Qi Yutai valued the mad dog as much as a jewel in his collection, and its death at her hands had already angered him greatly. He would definitely be reluctant to use the brain of the greyhound to prepare medicine for her, and Ji Xun’s actions would inevitably offend Qi Yutai.
Lu Tong asked, "Young Master Qi actually agreed?"
"He has yet to be informed," Ji Xun replied, "No one was looking after the dog’s carcass; I took it myself."
Lu Tong stared at him with wide eyes, as if seeing him for the first time.
He, however, appeared nonchalant, seemingly unaware of how much this action tarnished his image as a gentleman, and continued, "I examined the wounds on the dog’s body, the neck pulse, Heavenly Pivot, Heavenly Gate, Lung Point, Heart Point, and Baihui Point... you were very accurate."
Lu Tong calmly responded, "Naturally, I had just reviewed the acupoint diagram three days ago."
"It’s different to read about it on paper than to actually touch and execute it," Ji Xun said with a hint of doubt, "Even the seniors in the Imperial Medical Bureau may not be as precise as you."
To be decisive and accurate, hitting every target cleanly—although an ordinary doctor might have such skill and precision, in a crisis, it’s nearly impossible to remain this composed.
Panic is a human instinct.
Lu Tong looked at him openly, "Doctor Ji seems to have forgotten that I was the top of the red list in the Imperial Medical Bureau’s spring examination; naturally, my reputation wasn’t just built on flattery, I do possess some exceptional skills."
Ji Xun was startled, as if he just remembered the previous mockery using the spring examination’s red list, and his face turned slightly red.
Seeing him like this, Lu Tong turned her head away and furrowed her brows, as if the pain had been triggered by her wound, and she softly hissed in pain.
Ji Xun looked up and saw a shallow scratch on the left side of her cheek, near the neck.
It was likely caused by the greyhound’s claw; the wound was not deep, merely brushing a layer of skin, yet it stood out starkly against her fair complexion, like a crack in pristine white porcelain.
After a silent moment, he took out a vial of medicine from his sleeve and placed it on the table.
"The Imperial Apothecary’s Immortal Jade Skin Ointment. You have many wounds, and without proper care, scars are inevitable."
Lu Tong was slightly surprised, and then listened as he continued, "Rest well. You should not move around in the coming days, and after returning to the city, there’s no need to come to the Medical Officer Institute first. I have already spoken with Chief Physician Chang to allow you a half-month of rest."
After a moment of silence, Lu Tong nodded, "Thank you."
He gave a few more instructions about medication, which Lu Tong acknowledged. It wasn’t until the last streak of evening glow had disappeared behind the trees that he left the tent.
Once he had gone, Lu Tong turned her gaze to the small medicine vial on the table.
The medicine vial was exquisitely made; it was just a small bottle that she had seen once in the Western Pharmacy Room, one of the best scar-removing medicines from the Imperial Apothecary, made with precious ingredients and used by nobility inside the Palace. She remembered He Xiu telling her that it was quite expensive.
She didn’t expect Ji Xun to have brought it out for her.
