Chapter 100: The Selvaris Family (3)
Giving up the chance to get laid with a beauty like her feels terrible... But I need to keep my focus on getting the information. Unless I’m thinking about it all wrong and she was just talking about spending time period.
"We should get started. Feel free to ask whatever you are curious about." Selene says unenthusiastically. Clearly she wasn’t interested in it.
Don’t let her tonality get to you Rokuro, just keep pushing through it.
I lean back in the chair while keeping myself composed. "Do you know much about the rumors of war?" I ask with more of a serious tone in my voice.
"War huh? I’d say that a war would benefit Elyndra quite a bit. We wouldn’t have to deal with anyone or anything below us anymore. Yes, there’s been talk of war." Selene responds nonchalantly.
"Do the lives below mean nothing?!?" I question with a bit of anger starting to overtake me.
A look of disgust appears on her face before she begins to speak. "I should care about garbage? I’ll pass." Selene responds while staring at me.
Garbage? Garbage!?! So I see how it is here. She’s no better than the people who looked down on me in the past. Just another person willing to let the weak die since they don’t believe in helping anyone like that.
This is the problem I have with some of the people that are high up in the rankings. Except this is a whole ass city full of people like her.
The Variseth’s weren’t like this so does that mean the other two families are? This one and the other one I haven’t met yet.
Selvaris is just filled with terrible people after all.
I could feel my fists gripping tighter and tighter as I stared back at this woman. The anger was overwhelming me, this was too close to home.
"Oh, right. You are from below aren’t you? It is a miracle that a handsome man with your power exists below." Selene says while she seems to be admiring me.
"Not everyone below is garbage. Those lives matter." I reply while holding back my rage.
Who cares? She is just as bad as the reaper.
Shut up. You aren’t helping. Rika would be a lot better in this situation than whatever the hell you are. Shit, this is such a pain in the ass to deal with.
She leans back against her chair while beginning to smile at me. "I wouldn’t want to make an enemy of you. Why don’t we put this on the shelf and move on. No more talks of war, okay?" Selene speaks with more of a genuine tone.
"Feels like a great idea." I reply, still a bit of anger lingers in my voice.
It doesn’t change that she called everyone below garbage. The ones below who think like her are the only garbage that exists down there.
Others at least deserve a chance to live since they haven’t done anything wrong. But at least she is deciding to move away from the idea of war.
Am I really worth keeping as an ally? I haven’t displayed enough power to show that I can be a threat. Was the fight against that reaper really enough for me to be seen like this?
Whatever.
The rest of the day was spent talking about useless things that only seems to be interesting to her. Talks of clothing, her hatred for the other two families, and even the hate of her forced image.
None of it really made me feel any different about her, not since the comment she made earlier. ’I should care about garbage’.
She truly doesn’t get how bad that ruined her relationship with me already. Regardless I made it through the whole day with her so that’s something.
The sun was starting to go down as we continue to sit in this office talking about nonsense. Talking wouldn’t really be the right term since she’s been doing most of the talking.
"Alright. Why don’t I call for a meeting tomorrow, something to end this war talk." Selene suggests while keeping a smile.
"Didn’t you say we were moving past this? Why would you care to discuss it more with other people?" I ask with a bit of confusion in my voice.
"You came up here for that very purpose didn’t you? After everything I’ve seen so far, I’d like to avoid fighting against you. So I’ll speak to my family about arranging everything." Selene responds with more of an understanding tone to her voice.
"Alright. Are we done for today then?" I question.
She stands up from her chair after all the long hours of talking and walks over to me. "Yes. Do you really not want to share a bed with me tonight?" Selene whispers with a bit of hope still lingering in her voice.
This woman really is persistent with me staying with her... But I can’t move past what she said just yet. It still leaves a bad taste in my mouth after everything that happened to me below.
All the memories of how people used to look at me and how some still look at me. Even with power people still look down if you aren’t at their level or higher.
Just the level of insults change from what they once were.
"Maybe another night. I have some stuff to finish up at the other manor." I respond to her while keeping a friendly tone.
I feel her lips press against my cheek before she moves away, a light peck. "I’ll leave you with that. Tomorrow I’ll send someone over to the Variseth manor to inform them of the meeting." She says with a bit of red in her cheeks.
"I’ll see you again soon then." I reply before giving a respectful bow.
It felt like the right thing to do in the moment since most of these families are of high status anyway. I hated every second of that though.
