Chapter 60 Alternation and Cycle

What all the primordial gods agreed upon was that this primordial god position should not fall into the hands of deities unrelated to them.

The Oracle Goddess's desperate struggle was not interfered with. Tyche had been cared for by this goddess, and Zeus was Phoebus's son-in-law. Eros's restless hands froze in place under the gaze of this mother and son.

But that was all Tyche could do. If she broke this delicate balance and helped Phoebus, the four primordial gods would undoubtedly unite to intervene in Phoebus's promotion.

In the silent atmosphere, Tyche watched Phoebus's weakening aura with helplessness. The Oracle Goddess's desperate struggle had not succeeded. Her brilliant radiance began to dim. Styx, who had rushed over, could only leave behind her residual divinity.

The World Tree submerged into Tyche's palm. The mother and son arrived at the island of Delphi and saw the sorrowful Coeus and his daughters.

Tyche comforted Asteria, saying, "There is no need to weep over this. It is not impossible for Princess Phoebus to return."

As she spoke, she gestured for the gods to look at the incomplete divinity in Styx's hand. "The Oracle Goddess still has new choices. As long as enough faith is gained, Princess Phoebus's consciousness will return from the divinity!"

"In the meantime, you must maintain her existence in Phoebus's name. Leto and Asteria, wipe away your tears and bestow revelations upon all beings in Phoebus's name."

This news brought solace to Coeus and his daughters. The Starry Night Goddess did not blame her friend for this. She wiped away the tears from the corner of her eyes and thanked Tyche, "My mother had already foreseen this. She told me that if this outcome could not be changed, she would accept fate's arrangement with equanimity."

"The essence of fate is Sisyphus's stone. The beginning is the end, and the start is also the finish. This cycle cannot be broken."

Tyche sighed inwardly. The prophetic Phoebus had divided her power and given it to her to prevent the birth of the Moirai. Now, because her domain of fate was divided, she had missed the opportunity to be promoted to a primordial god. This was truly lamentable.

The gods on Mount Olympus did not care about Phoebus's apparent demise. They had taught humans schadenfreude and jealousy. How many of them would truly mourn the fall of a being superior to them into the mire?

Both good and evil in human nature originated from the gods' gifts. Their emotions were only more extreme than those of humans.

From Phoebus's legacy, the Oracle divinity was bestowed upon Tyche by Coeus. Leto and Asteria could not keep this divinity. Rather than letting his wife's legacy become carrion for hyenas to fight over, it was better to entrust it to Tyche. At least, fearing Tyche's power, they were unwilling to covet the Oracle divinity, and his wife's belongings could remain intact.

Tyche promised to return this divinity after Phoebus's return. The absence of prophetic power benefited Apollo. He successfully communicated with the divination divinity through the fate divinity inherited from Leto. At his mother's plea, Apollo readily became famous among humans as the successor to the Oracle of Delphi. His priests all prophesied for the powerful in the name of Delphi.

While bringing faith nourishment to Phoebus, Apollo successfully ascended to Great Divinity in the tide of faith. As civilization developed, so did various fields. In this trend, Demeter, the goddess of fertility and agriculture, followed Apollo in promotion, followed by Artemis, the goddess of nature, and then Athena and Poseidon also broke through.

Among the main gods, only the goddess of fortune Leto and Hades, the god of wealth and funerals, remained at Middle Divinity. Leto's children both became Great Divinities, and the Queen of the Gods shared power with the King of the Gods. The gods had no dissatisfaction with Leto firmly holding her position as a main god.

The reclusive Hades was not so fortunate. Poseidon was the first to attack him. The god of tsunamis claimed that his brother's main god position was his mother's legacy and should not be solely enjoyed by Hades. No one expected such a reversal, but all the gods were happy to watch the brothers' joke, and they all supported Poseidon, attempting to make Hades fall from his main god position.

The god of wealth had long been tired of this. He looked at the red-faced deities before him and spoke slowly and solemnly, "I am willing to give up the main god position."

The gods were busy arguing and ignored the voice of this main god.

Seeing this, Tyche could not help but feel a bit sorry for Hades. Deities who did not covet power were very few. Those who could resolutely give up after tasting the sweetness of power were even rarer. Hades did not usually get involved in the gods' disputes, which showed he was a clear-headed and sensible person.

Like vultures fighting over carrion, the gods' voices grew noisier. Zeus, as the King of the Gods, finally could not help but reprimand them.

"Put away your ugliness. The main god position will not be decided by your clamor!"

The thunder in the sky roared at the right time. Zeus's primordial god pressure restored silence to the temple.

Hades still maintained a calm face. He stood up in the silence and once again expressed his intention to the gods.

"I am willing to give up the main god position."

The main gods of the same rank were also stunned. Hera and Demeter were in a dilemma, silently turning their heads away from Hades and Poseidon.

Hades, who was the focus for the first time, still had that expressionless face. This made Poseidon a little uneasy. Frankly speaking, Hades, as an elder brother, was qualified. He and Poseidon had supported each other to reach this point, but due to his brother's selfish desires, this friendship had come to an imperfect end.

Putting down the scepter representing the main god position, Hades calmly left the Pantheon with a peaceful gaze. The gods watched the god of wealth disappear into the earth and then cast covetous glances at the ownerless scepter.

Tyche ignored this farce. She ignored the gods' whispers and summoned Athena, the goddess of protection and strategy, to her side.

"Athena, who inherits the wisdom of the Ocean God and the Sea Goddess, I bestow upon you the main god position inherited from my grandmother of the sea! From now on, you will bear the responsibility and obligation to protect the sea gods."

Athena took the scepter from Tyche's hand. The rain, snow, clouds, and mist representing Tyche on the throne were replaced by waves and shields.

Tyche's abdication was obviously not as shocking to the gods as Hades'. Athena flowed with the bloodline of Oceanus, inherited from Zeus. This intelligent goddess would surely stand firmly on the side of the King of the Gods.

Tyche did not care who the main god position left by Hades belonged to. Accompanied by the rainbow goddesses, she returned to the Invisible Island.

The rainbow goddesses were originally Tyche's subordinate gods. They came to the divine mountain to share Zeus's pressure, but now that Zeus had become a primordial god, the absolute power difference made the gods dare not disobey the King of the Gods' orders as before. The goddesses were also freed from their busy work and returned to the comfortable Invisible Island.
