Chapter 114 Woking's Return

The Greek world and the Forgotten Realms world have no concept of reincarnation; souls return to their origin to reappear in new forms. Even prayerful ones protected by the divine realms of the gods rarely achieve eternal existence alongside them, unless they were truly devout believers in life and, after becoming prayerful ones, deeply understood the deities' doctrines and philosophies, becoming spirit-like demigods. Otherwise, they would still have their emotions eroded over a long time, becoming part of the divine realm.

Tyche had a vague premonition that the divine position of reincarnation would be a potent tonic for the already fragmented laws. Both Mount Celestia and the Abyss and Hell had unseen wills observing.

This was problematic! The anomaly in the laws would surely alert Ao, which was contrary to her plan of quietly accumulating wealth! She had arranged for her allies to take the lead. If Ao truly shifted her focus to her, the Anti-Ao Alliance would likely kick her while she was down and silence her.

In her helplessness, Tyche had to pause the creation of the reincarnation divine position! The appearance of this divine position required a suitable timing. Once her allies broke through their limitations and became ancient gods, drawing all the attention, Ao would naturally not be preoccupied with the reincarnation divine position.

Fortunately, there was a Plan B. Since the reincarnation divine position could not appear for the time being, she would have to proceed from another direction.

The children taken in by the Church of Compassion would receive guidance from retired adventurers and soldiers. However, only a minority were suitable to become professionals. Whether assassins, rogues, mages, or clerics, all required a certain talent.

As for those lacking talent, they still needed to earn a living through manual labor. After Tyche obtained Talona's divine position and converted it into the divine positions of health and herbs, these children could earn a living by picking and processing herbs. The church also established a vast herb plantation, which solved the livelihood problems of some children.

With the support of the church, some children started small businesses. Herb shops bearing the emblem of the Goddess of Compassion appeared on various streets in Waterdeep. Both poisons and remedies had their markets, and with the care of their former companions, many of these shopkeepers had surplus funds to support the church's charitable endeavors.

Waukeen's escape from the Abyss did not cause much of a stir. The Goddess of Joy, Lliira, kept her promise and returned the divine positions of commerce and wealth. However, Waukeen's prolonged silence caused many profit-seeking merchants to shift their faith, and the greatest beneficiary was the Goddess of Joy, who temporarily held Waukeen's divine position!

The once unremarkable Church of Joy's influence exploded with the support of the wealth donated by merchants. Although Waukeen's return reclaimed some followers, the lost faith and influence were not so easily recovered.

Waukeen performed a show of sisterly affection before the gods and Lliira, appearing to have no grudges with the goddesses led by Shar. However, the first thing she did after stabilizing her church was to move her divine realm away from the Brightwater region back to the Halls of Knowledge, which was undoubtedly a signal of her withdrawal from the Goddesses' Alliance.

Waukeen's return was a welcome sight for Oghma, the God of Knowledge. He even mobilized all the gods of the absolute neutral alignment to send avatars to help Waukeen relocate her divine realm. Tyche, who happened to want to inquire about those adventurers, quickly responded to Oghma's call.

Waukeen's avatar, clad in golden robes and boots, gave Tyche her first impression: dazzling, too dazzling! Everything in sight was gold coins, even Waukeen's avatar's eyes were shaped like gold coins.

"Thank you for your assistance, Your Highnesses."

Waukeen also wanted to mend relations with the absolute neutral alignment, and her method was simple and crude: showering them with money! The churches of various deities received large donations. Even Gond, the God of Crafts and Smithing, who was always silent and aloof, showed a smiling face under Waukeen's financial offensive, indicating that this wealth was by no means a small sum.

Tyche received a land deed. A rough estimate showed that this land, from the Great Rift to the River District, occupied almost one-twentieth of Waterdeep!

Even Tyche was shocked by Waukeen's grand gesture. Although it was not the noble or commercial districts, the value of this land could buy a duke's territory in a remote region!

The Church of Compassion immediately received a divine oracle from the goddess to build a school on this land! Tyche's Plan B was to shift to the field of education. Oghma, the God of Knowledge, had not ventured into this field, but Tyche saw the considerable potential in education.

Tyche's plan received strong support from Oghma and Mystra. Books and scrolls were continuously transported to enrich the school's library.

This was of great benefit to Oghma's domain of knowledge, so his support was not surprising.

What Tyche found incredible was that both Oghma, the God of Knowledge, and the gods of chanting and literature believed that knowledge and art only existed in the hands of nobles and scholars! Under their control, knowledge was almost completely alienated from the common people! Even scribes who worked as clerks were the second or third sons of noble families, completely blocking the possibility of social mobility.

Moving a divine realm was a troublesome affair. Even with the help of one powerful deity and two intermediate deities, Waukeen's divine realm still took a considerable amount of time to return to the Halls of Knowledge.

What was interesting was that Waukeen's divine realm was adjacent to Gond and Tyche, and some distance from the gods of knowledge. To observers, the three intermediate deities seemed to be banding together.

Waukeen's conduct was impeccable, and all the gods were warmly entertained by her.

During the feast, before Tyche could speak, Deneir, the God of Literature, eagerly inquired about the adventurers, saving Tyche some effort.

"I do not know their identities. Perhaps they are similar to planar travelers."

Waukeen did not wish to recall the humiliation and despair she suffered in the Silver Palace and was happy to shift her attention to the adventurers.

"All the gods know that the Weave has very little influence in the Abyss, where dead magic zones are most prevalent. Yet, one of those adventurers was able to cast a spell in Graz'zt's domain that repelled him!"

Thinking of this, Waukeen still found it unbelievable. That was an Abyssal Prince powerful enough to rival a deity! After Karsus's failed attempt to deify himself led to the fall of the Goddess of Magic, the upper Weave was sealed. Unless the Goddess of Magic unsealed it, or a spellcaster ignited the Weave and became an Archmage, ordinary professionals would never have the ability to cast spells that harmed deities!

"Did His Majesty Ao appear?"

Gond also couldn't help but ask.

"I did not see His Majesty Ao along the way. Even those adventurers disappeared when they left the Abyss and entered the Underdark."

Waukeen paused for a moment as if organizing her thoughts, then said in a very strange tone, "There were no spatial fluctuations; they simply disappeared before my eyes, bit by bit!"

The gods exchanged glances, all understanding what Waukeen meant.

It was not an accident, nor did they use spells like teleportation. Instead, those adventurers simply vanished without a trace before the eyes of Waukeen, an intermediate deity!
